Cortes de la Frontera Townhouse

Gorgeous little house in the heart of the old town. Located in an alleyway overlooking the hills with a beautiful roof to see the sunrise and sunset. A short walk to the Mirador gardens. Loved my stay; the house is artsy and quirky and every detail has been carefully thought through. The roof level room with the daybeds was a fantastic touch. Would definitely stay again.

The ceiling fan in the master bedroom was broken (in the height of summer) & although the property has 2 electric fans, these switch on with a timer so it was uncomfortably hot at night without the functional ceiling fan. The rest of the house stayed lovely and cool thanks to the thick walls and terracotta floor tiles. The person looking after the house, Cristina, was very responsive and helpful.

Property will not issue lockbox code until the day of arrival which I was a bit concerned about. On the day we arrived we did not get sent the code and had to chase for it using booking.com messages. Jose sorted a code quickly but it doesn't seem the best system.

Very comfortable king size bed in the main bedroom. This room was very nice. Good kitchen facilities.

Damp! The stairs were poorly lit with uneven steps (and creepy lightshade at the top). Plaster and paint here need attention. Second double room was damp, has no window, and a curtain for a wall. Lacked comfortable seating - only chairs for two people.

Nice location and easy to find

The powers was unreliable. We flipped the breaker now fewer than 10times during our stay with minimal use of appliances. Since it was cold and damp we used the two provided space heaters but could never keep more than one going. If the stovetop was on, neither could be used. There is a fireplace but you must purchase wood elsewhere. There was a problem checking in. We’d requested an early check in of 2-3pm. We didn’t hear back that I recall but we weren’t able to arrive until 4pm. Upon arrival we were told the property wouldn’t be available until 5:30pm. This left us (backpackers) out in a chilling rain. Fortunately we were accommodated after some desperate email pleas. One last note, we were provided one partial roll of TP for the three of us. This wasn’t an error but rather SOP. We were clearly instructed that we were only allowed this small roll and clearly told not to take any away with us! It was very strange. All the TP was to be deposited in the bin and not down the pipes. This included TP used for BMs! Kind of strange policy for us but we DO understand the problems with rural plumbing in old properties.

We had a great stay, rooms are spacious and all house is lovely decorated making it very cosy place.

If there is anything that could be different then it is the fact that on arrival there was no wood and this had to be purchased for extra cash. Not overly expensive but I had no cash with me so had to go and find ATM at 8:30 pm (thankfully not far). It would be nice to get a notification before arrival to state the fact that it has to be purchased extra and only cash. Also salt and pepper would be nice in the kitchen.

It's an absolute gem, and I would have loved to stay longer. I liked everything about it, the peaceful and quiet location, decor, and comfort. Unbeatable!
