"Peaceful and beautiful old cottage"

10.0

Loved the cottage character, so much history behind it, so cosy and loved the fireplace in the evenings. Lovely location, remote, easy to find. Well equipped, all I can say, it's a big pleasure to spend your holiday here. I will definitely want to come back.❤️

The main bedroom's bed was too high and quit tricky to get in if your mobility is not good. I didn't appreciate the fact I had to pay for the logs as the fireplace was already filled with them on our arrival as normally, wherever I go, the host will leave logs out on arrival as a quertesy and then, when running out, obviously you have to pay if you want more or buy your own. WiFi signal very poor but it's understandable with the location. If you planing a longer stay than 2-3 days, make sure you bring your own toilet paper as is not much left out for you in the property. The light from the roof in bedrooms it doesn't have any curtain or something to be covered with as the bright light will strike in your face and will wake you up straight away in the early mornings if you planning to sleep more.

"my favourite holiday cottage of all time."

10.0

such a beautiful cottage - our second time visiting. Full of character, homely and completely unique. We also enjoy seeing Ruth the wonderful host each time, Beautiful spring flowers, the sound of birds and the nearby running river, the gorgeous open fire, comfortable beds - a feast for all 5 senses! Close to many fabulous sights and also we enjoyed a warm welcome at the local pub down the road and were really impressed with the great value taxi back (Sue's taxis).

"Dust and dog hair in a 19th Century farm cottage."

6.0

Our host was very gracious and easily contactable. The location is in a very quiet, rural farmland but still only 4 minutes drive to a local pub that serves good food Wednesday through Sunday (lunch). The bedrooms are quite large and the cottage has two bathroom (Ground and first floor). The main bed was very comfortable. There is a working Carbon Monoxide monitor next to the boiler. Logs are provided daily for the fireplace but we didn't use it as the central heating was very good. Water pressure and hot water are both excellent. Walking maps are provided but the walks aren't accessible from the cottage (have to drive to Newtown. Wonderful views down the valley and of rural farmland out of the windows. There is a well placed desk for laptop access in the kitchen.

The internet is very slow (1.5 mb/s) and regularly dropped out. Parking is a bit difficult on a steep driveway especially if the other cottage has two cars parked inappropriately. Dragging suitcases from the driveway to/from the cottage and up to the second floor is very difficult and not recommended for seniors. Rubbish collection from the rubbish hut seems to be a bit of an issue with overflowing and smelling rubbish accumulation. Although there was a good washing machine no washing powder or pods were provided. Only two toilet rolls were provided for our 4 day stay. The biggest issue for us was the poor cleaning. Thick layers of dust, cobwebs and dog hair meant that we constantly suffered from hayfever during our stay. Old books stacked under beds covered in dust didn't help. Despite being winter we had to collect dozens of dead flies before unpacking. Some of the kitchen utensils were covered in grease and had to be washed before using. Access to the main bedroom is through a crawl space and a little claustrophobic. If you are over 5 ft tall you should bring a helmet as most archways are very low. The cottage is not detached as advertised. It is attached to the other converted barn and can be a bit noisy. We also noticed that Covid information which was required during Covid tracking had not been removed and could be a privacy issue. There is also not blind on the skylights so the bedroom are very bright even on a moonlit night. Generally the place needs maintenance, a deep clean, fumigation and de-cluttering.
