Hilltop Cottage/ Penrhiw

Good size house for our family, 6 adults and 4 children didn't feel too cramped in the kitchen or living room. Alexa to play music, karaoke machine and a range of board games and small selection of toys for the children. Great size bedrooms for each family. Right in Snowdonia location was good, 20 mins to a lovely beach and 15/20 mins into a town, lovely pub at the bottom of the road serving great food and really nice beer garden at the back with a small park for the kids. Very good communication with the owner got back to us quickly and was very friendly. Parked 3 cars with no issues.

Outside area was good however we expected more of a grassed area for the children to play it was just gravel area, the pictures appeared to show more grass around the property however it isn't accessible and not suitable to play on. It has been mentioned in previous reviews however do agree that the oven and BBQ need a very good clean before new guests arrive, these were really dirty from previous guests. Would be good to have more cleaning cloths/mindful to potentially bring your own.

Wifi connection was poor

Everything about our stay was brilliant. The cottage, the location and local pub (half a mile down the hill) which was very good value for money. The area is stunning and the local trails were brilliant. I cannot recommend this cottage enough and will definitely be coming back!!!

It was our 2nd year running staying at Hilltop Cottage and we had a lovely week. It's such a relaxing location and comfortable place to stay that I'm sure we will return again. Home from home in the Welsh valleys.

Driveway, We were on Motorbikes and it was throwing down when we arrived, the slates were very slippy, and as on an incline so made it very difficult to get up the drive

If I could give a negative rating for the property and host we would. We took two small dogs with us and were asked to pay an extra £15 per dog per day by the host which was not advertised on the website. We contacted Booking.com to complain and they advised us not to pay for the dogs as it was not on the original booking. The cleanliness of the house itself was terrible. There were stains on the bath towels, the mirrors were dirty, there was dust and dirt over the wooden floors in the bedrooms, there was water damage and paint peeling over one wall in the main bedroom. The mattresses were so uncomfortable that we had two use duvets from other beds to sleep on. There was no washing up liquid provided in the kitchen so unless you bought some you could wash up the dishes. As we are seasoned travellers and have travelled extensively around the world for the past 30 years plus we left the property in clean and tidy and in good condition. When in came time to get our deposit of £300 back from the host, she made excuses of being poorly then after several more messages she maintained that we had damaged a kickboard in a bedroom upstairs (according to her would cost well over the £300 to fix!!!). After making an official complaint to Booking.com they gave her 5 days to respond and return our deposit (as they agreed with us that the damage was not £300 worth and would have fallen under accidental property damage anyway). The host then wrote slanderous and liable untruths back claiming new accusations of things we have damaged and how we had threatened her in our correspondence to her. Again we contacted Booking.com and having refuted all her accusations (and we have evidence or all correspondence etc), Booking.com supported and validated our concerns. We ended up getting our £300 back through Booking.com. The host we found to be accusatory, manipulative and amoral. We would NEVER RECOMMEND anyone use this facility.

Spacious rooms - great for a group of friends. Location was great for what we wanted to do for the week. Local pub good for food.

No extras provided even down to a small amount of toilet roll left for use with no spares, no soap, tea/coffee, seasonings etc. - the normal little things you expect to find - luckily we had read previous reviews so came well prepared. Fridge missing parts on side so thing left falling out when opened (on the small side for such large accommodation too). Dishwasher door dented at bottom so had to work out how to open without making anymore damage - no reference left for us. Beds comfortable, but would have been nice to have mattress protectors, solid pillows and beds that had the sheets in the correct way - it felt like there has either been slept in or put in a rush with no care. En-suite sink taps loose and toilet has to be pumped to flush. Heating had to be turned on with no instructions for anything - luckily one of us could work it out. The property could be amazing if looked after - we did find out on our last day that the property is up for sale. Despite all of this, we did have an enjoyable time, but would not stay again.
