"Extremely disappointing and no evidence of a deep clean claimed by the owner."

3.0

Good distance from the centre of Bath

Cut short our stay by 2 days as the kitchen (particularly the oven) was dirty. Filthy tea towel left and no clean ones in sight. Large bundles of dirty washing left in the utility room and bags of rubbish out the back. Bathroom door off its hinge so wouldn't shut. Heating was erratic and a cold house was the last straw. We felt celebrating the New Year there was too depressing.

"Great location but fails on cleanliness"

4.0

Beautiful house in a great location with stunning views only a 15-20 min walk down a steep hill to the city centre. Excellent heating and powerful, hot shower. Spacious and homely with a few interesting books and games on the shelf in the dining room.

The house is tired and needs updating, it's very damp and has a strong musty smell and there is damage to some areas that need attention. There was water staining on the front room ceiling, the shelf in the kitchen is hanging off it's hinges. The splash back behind the taps falling away. The handrail up the stairs loose, the metal bed frame snapped and the tape binding it together has come apart and the edges sharp and potentially dangerous. The house had not been cleaned and whilst I can overlook a few cobwebs, the kitchen and bathroom areas were of particular concern. There were crumbs on the toaster, worktop and floor, the microwave was dirty and had dried up curry splattered inside. The sink was tea/coffee stained and the kettle was thick with scale inside and out. There were pods on the Nespresso machine and residue coffee. The utility had piles of laundry up as high as the window and the room itself untidy. The washing machine had a load of washing still inside and was switched on. The shower door was cloudy with limescale, there was mould and limescale around the taps and in the toilet pan. I even had to clean the hoover before using it as it was full up with dirt. The bedding was so crumpled and the sheets sticking out of the mattress that we questioned whether it had even been washed. I informed the owner that this was unacceptable. He was quick to respond and said he would pass on my message to the cleaners but there was no reason given, solution provided or accountability. We had to purchase cleaning products to clean these areas before we could use them. We were so disappointed as had pre-arranged with the owner to arrive at the property before the check in time of 4pm and he had confirmed that the cleaners would be there on Sunday and that we could arrive anytime on Monday but we didn't end up arriving until around 2pm. Such a shame and not the way we wanted to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday and my birthday.

"A potentially beautiful lodge in a wonderful location - it just needs a bit of love and repair"

6.0

This lodge has the potential to be beautiful. It was in a great location, with off street parking for two cars. There is plenty of space for a family, with 3 bedrooms and a good living space. The host was easily contactable, and the bedding was clean and comfortable.

The photos given do not reflect the property’s current state. We wonder if there has been some sort of water damage as there are a lot of marks on the living room ceiling. The property was damp and there was damage in some areas. As much as we don’t want to post damning photos, we do feel it is important for future guests to see the current state of the property considering we were not made aware of this before we arrived. This is a lovely lodge, but it needs a bit of TLC and repair.

"Beautiful old house in gorgeous neighborhood"

7.0

House is old and gorgeous. Kitchen was well-equipped and convenient. Bedrooms were comfortable (although mattresses weren’t great). The neighborhood is nice and quiet, with wonderful views of the historic center of Bath. There are shops, a pub/deli, and a small grocery store partway down the hill and the walk into town is very pleasant. There were adequate kitchen implements to cook with and enough tableware to serve and eat the meals that we prepared.

House is up a steep hill. Bus service wasn’t convenient, so we needed to take taxis up the hill with luggage or groceries. (Three bus tickets would have cost as much as a taxi, so that was okay.) House needs looking after; smelled strongly of damp. Laundry room has cleaning supplies and random belongings stacked against the back door, so patio can’t be accessed. Shower was very difficult to use, and had mold.

"Lovely hilltop lodge"

10.0

Lovely place in a beautiful location, very responsive host, lots of amenities including board games, DVDs, netflix, toiletries and laundry supplies. Free parking which in Bath is a rarity.

Tricky parking on a hill with little room to maneuver, however previous reviews gave some handy tips. The bus stop was closed due to roadworks but that's not the fault of the host! The laundry company hadn't come for a while as there was a large pile of dirty laundry bags in the utility room but everything else in the place was spotless.
