"A unique and wonderful stay"

10.0

The Tin Church exudes coziness or “hygge” whilst also showcasing amazing Scottish art. The attention to detail is wonderful. From the local art that adorns the walls right down to the leaves on the light switches, we were coloured impressed at every turn. The owners have poured their heart and soul into this church’s rebirth, and it shows. The utilisation of space has been done with careful thought, as you find smart storage at every angle and well appointed appliances. (Dishwasher, cooker, microwave, washing machine etc) We usually bring everything bar the kitchen sink, this time there was absolutely no need. (We usually bring plug in miFI up north but found to our surprise the connection was great) All you need to do is stock the fridge, light the fire (with the generously supplied wood), and read your book as you occasionally look around to admire the beautiful wooden interior. Portnalong is well situated to see the sights of Skye and it feels tucked away in its own pocket of calm, away from the pounding heels of the masses. We highly recommend The Old Inn at Carbost around 5 minutes drive away from Portnalong. Its food, local music and service was fantastic both nights we went. The pattering of rain against the tin roof was (often) our soundtrack to sleeping soundly. Skye’s weather was not kind for us for our week. However, with a base camp like the tin-church, you simply won’t care. Thank you for a wonderful holiday we will always remember.

Absolutely perfect little house in a little valley of nowhere. Birds (even an eagle), deer and sheep around. Panoramic windows, good for rainy and sunny days!

"Cost and comfortable in an isolated and beautiful valley. A perfect retreat in nature."

10.0

Very sensitive and thoughtful conversion, light and airy but also cosy and warm. Lovely wood burner. Well appointed with everything you need. A real home from home. In a really isolated spot with great nature watching opportunities - including sea eagle. Lovely! We have already booked to return. 10/10 from us.

Not things we didn’t like but things to be aware of - it’s very isolated so you need to bring all of your food with you. The roads have potholes so beware of that. If coming in the midge season keep the windows closed when the sun is not shining- bring repellent and midge hat.

The Tin Church is a beautiful and comfortable accommodation. It's clear the owners have given a lot of thought to what one might need. It was spotless on arrival. Super comfortable bed. Well equiped kitchen with everything we needed. There was a generous supply of firewood for the stove, and super helpful instructions on how to get a fire going (also regular heating if you don't fancy making a fire). Lots of walking opportunities nearby, and there are some walking guides in the living room for inspiration of where to go. Amazing nature to enjoy. Would love to visit again!

The roads on Skye have some very deep potholes, so drive carefully. It was the same situation all over Skye, not at all unique to this location and obviously not something the owners can remedy. Might have been worse than normal as we visited in early spring and there have been record rainfalls the past few months. Would happily navigate around them again to return for another stay!
