Southgrove View, Family Holiday Cottage

This is probably the best equipped cottage we’ve ever stayed in. There is pretty much everything you’ll need for your holiday and then some - body boards, nets and an inflatable to take to the beach, for example! The sea views are spectacular, and the communication from the owners before, during and after the stay was excellent. Little touches like the welcome amenities were very thoughtful and generous. It’s very much a home from home which you can quickly settle into and feel comfortable and cosy. We had a lovely two weeks’ holiday and on the rare days when we stayed in (the weather was beautiful so we were exploring most of the time) it was a cosy place for us all to relax in.

We had the same issue with the beds in the kids’ room and the main bedroom as a couple of previous reviewers. Some of other the furnishings / items (like the fan) could also do with updating and fittings like blinds etc were not in ideal condition. A couple of the windows were sticky and didn’t open and shut properly. The location and property itself wouldn’t be suitable for people with mobility issues. I do also feel that for the price of the stay, the sheets should be 100% cotton. It was a warm couple of weeks and the house gets a lot of sunlight during the day. Polyester sheets made for uncomfortable summer sleep unfortunately.

The view from the front room was lovely. The kitchen was very well equipped. The location is great.

The double bed mattress was very thin and hard, and it was wedged between the furniture, so every time you turned over, the bed hit the furniture. The single bed was broken at the bottom, so when my daughter got into bed, it collapsed (sounds funny, but she is only a tiny thing, and she hurt her arm). We found one of the plastic fixings in the bedside drawer, so the previous occupants had broken the bed and tried to hide the evidence. The slates were also broken on the other bed, but it was not bad enough for the bed to collapse. There was a massive spider under the bed!!

The level of furnishing and equipment was first class. The only day it rained meant we spent a very relaxing day in the "cottage" (on 3 floors!) and were very comfortable and able to entertain ourselves with their TV/video, books and games.

Only very minor quibble was it was 3 floors, 30 steps, from the ground floor to the toilet!

Great everything and the welcome food very useful. Beds very comfortable. View fantastic.

One toilet might have been been awkward on occasions, but we managed.

The house is stunning, really beautiful with everything you could possibly want or need. The hosts were so very helpful and always ready to promptly answer questions or to help in any way.

I wish I could have found a dog friendly beach but this is not a shortcoming of the property!
