Idyllic setting

Minor but we are cooks and the fridge needed updating.

We had asked for early entry and were told it "should" be OK . Tried to get confirmation and no reply. When we did arrive the property was not ready early and we had to walk about in the mud for an hour. Had we known - we would have stopped off somewhere more suitable. We were told to drive round the back. It had been very wet so we drove through a mud bog for want of a better word. Entrance door was right into the kitchen so straight away dirty floors and wet feet. Later we were told we vould use the main gate - dry concrete access to the side - this wouldv've been appreciated from the get go. Side door was extremely stiff and posts an immediate fire risk as next to the ground floor bedroom 6 person occupancy - no electric shower! From the tank meant 2 could shower at any given time. Poor! Heating throughout the house was inadequate. Small fridge and ice box for 6? Not sufficient. We appreciate it is an old buildng but it is very run down and poorly maintained. Linen very poor standard. We have stayed in many properties this age, and indeed older that have had a bit of TLC put back into them. The only saving grace was the location but that has absolutley nothing to do with the property itself. It was way over priced for what it was. I have just recently returned from holiday to a similar aged property. 3/4 of the price. Beautiful decor, linen, crockery, hot water galore and warm as toast. Really disappointed especially as we were inviting our daughter and boyfriend as a "treat". My kids were devasteed the pool table was effectively in a cold barn and despite hats and gloves - they could not enjoy this space.

Lovely cottage, plenty space, has everything you need, close to Elie beach which was lovely plenty walks, private & relaxing.

Property was a little hard to find & signs are small but host was happy to help.

The location was very remote, and therefore we felt quite safe and secure to explore the place. The owner was very nice and helpful: we'd not brought any matches to use for the oven and fireplace and he came round with some for us straight away. The bedrooms too were really spacious, with the added bonus of a downstairs bedroom.

The off-road bit getting to the cottage was definitely off-road: perhaps a heads-up in the description, especially for my car which was loaded up to the rafters!
