Good, quiet location. Tastefully decorated and to a high standard. Pet friendly.

Dining chairs unstable, some have been reglued unsuccessfully. Need some padding on dining chairs for comfort. Main lights in lounge/living room did not work. Could have done with more comfortable seating in lounge/living room. Only seating for 5, not 6 in lounge/living room (3 seater sofa, one wing chair, one club chair) so needed a dining chair in lounge/living room to sit together hence padding on dining chairs required. Crockery ok, not enough breakfast bowls or microwaveable containers when self catering. More suited to groups of 4 for comfort and bathroom facilities.

Comfortable and spacious for 4 people. Beautifully refurbished and well equipped. Good location for town and surrounding areas for exploring. Hot tub was great!

Parking could be tricky as no designated space.

Renovated to a good standard

I’ve never written a bad review in my life but I’ve contacted the owner twice since returning over a week ago and I’ve still had no response. The hot tub stopped working after the first night. I understand that these things happen and are unavoidable. Worryingly though the plug appeared to have set on fire, presumably during the night while we were in bed and considering the surrounding walls are covered in wood this was very concerning. I contacted Jon-Paul but unfortunately the problem was not resolved and we were unable to use the hot tub for the remainder of our stay. As a single mum of two teenagers we don’t get away very often but we were there to celebrate my 50th birthday and my daughter going to university. We love Northumberland and paid extra to stay at the captains nook because it had a hot tub. Since returning home I have contacted Jon-Paul twice to ask if he would consider offering a partial refund. I was polite on both occasions and didn’t suggest an amount. He hasn’t responded on either occasion. Having stayed in many holiday rentals I was also disappointed not to receive a welcome pack. Equipment in the kitchen is also minimal.

Decor and location

Needs a dishwasher and not comfortable sofa
