Kokopelli's Hideaway

We didn’t like anything about this property !

We were “sorely disappointed “ to say the least with the way things were handled with our arrival ! And with the deceit that was disguised as being honest in the location of the property, ” made us feel like a bait and switch deal !! Terrible and worst experience we’ve ever had with Booking.com and this property!! The owner Rene told us that she would not be able to meet us on our arrival date 9/25/25 but her friend Andrew would be greeting us. We spoke to Andrew about 2 hours before our expected arrival and he agreed to be at the property at 4 pm . He also informed us that he did have a meeting but said he Would be finished by then and meet us at the kokepelli hideaway property at 4pm. We finished our late lunch and decided to drive to the property a little early. According to the owners direction, the property was about 4 something miles away .What a LIE she told, as we drove all the way down the mountain from Julian, through the desert 🌵!! We thought we were lost, it took about 45 minutes to get down and “SURPRISE!” a big sign said “ Welcome to “ SHELTER VALLEY!!” OMG !!! Disgusting little place in the desert, she lists her property as being in JULIAN, California!! How does she get away with this !???? I’m thinking to myself…” I did not pay all this $$ to be out in the desert 🌵 with all the cactus, trash and heat !We finally arrived in the desert area to her property, only to find that it was surrounded by junk cars and very undesirable neighbors that look like hoarders with junk cars and trash everywhere!!! That’s not why I’m on vacation to see this !! I was expecting to be in Julian, in the pines the cool breezes!! We arrived at 3:50pm and waited for Andrew who never showed up !He sent us a text finally almost 45 minutes later and said he should get out of his meeting by 5pm !

Very quiet location in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Beautifully and with a lot of love decorated little house, sparkling clean. Reni, the owner, takes a lot of care in providing relevant information vial email (shopping, route of arrival, etc.). She waited for me when I arrived and it was fun chatting with her!

Absolutely nothing

Very peaceful and beautiful! The hideaway was so beautifully decorated and it tells a story. The place is very clean and no detail left unthought of.

We did not book a stay long enough.

Loved everything. Access to so many different places- Julian, Borrego, Ocotillo. Reni is attentive and helpful and she thinks of everything. We felt at home. Reni is so kind and wonderful to talk with.

The accommodations were welcoming and the host was amazing. She thought of everything you could possibly need.

Beautiful large space to relax in the high desert. Full kitchen, beautiful murals, record player and videos for entertainment. A nice desk space provided. Waterbed was comfortable. Reni was very helpful. The night sky and early morning views were amazing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay @ Kokopelli's Hideaway. The hospitality & amenities far surpass the pictures that lured us in!  Thank you for providing a relaxing atmosphere allowing us to recharge from life's hustle & bustle.  The location is perfect for all kinds of day trips! We are looking forward to a return stay ❤️

Wonderful, inviting, comfortable...all the necessities of home in a pared down simpler living space.

Only wish we could have stayed longer!... and a bit less wind!
