Casa Adelina nel Centro dei Sassi

We had a brilliant stay in Matera, largely because of the location of the property, close to the main square, but a short walk into the old part. Views over the Sassi district are incredible. We were there the week of the Festival of the patron Saint, (Madonna della Bruna). We missed the main event 2 July, but saw other events in the square, and the town was decorated with thousands of lights. Fresh milk and butter in fridge. Good coffee machine.

We were there in hot weather; we turned the heating on by mistake and it took a while to figure out what had happened. The host did her best to be helpful, and the owner of the restaurant next door came to the rescue. The second bedroom is on a mezzanine and in the heat wave, the air conditioning didn’t reach it well enough for comfort; addition of a fan may have helped. There is a window which lets in light from the street and needed a cover. Decoration not to our taste (too much stuff, strong smelling diffusers which the host kindly took away). Some essentials missing (toilet brush). This could be an amazing place to stay, but little things let it down (bucket with dirty cloth left on balcony, clean but unironed sheets, no dishwasher tablet).

Vittoria greeted us at the property upon our arrival, and explained how everything worked in the apartment. Additionally, she helped us book a walking tour. The apartment is very nice, in a beautiful location, with very comfy beds - we had the best sleep! Everything was great and we would stay again in Casa Adelina :)

Unfortunately, the kitchen lacked just a few items we would have liked - a tea towel, dishwasher powder and kitchen utensils such as a wooden spoon and a spatula/egg flipper.

The apartment is beautiful, clean and with spectacular views of Matera. Vittoria was lovely and we really enjoyed our stay.

The only thing we would have liked to improve would be the breakfast, which was limited to biscotti toasts, jam and juice boxes. Of course the apartment is so beautiful and near great cafes there are other options for breakfast but some fresh food would certainly have been appreciated.

Vittoria has created a wonderful place. Very comfortable furnished. Great location. Very good contact with the hostess. Amazing views from the window, which the photos do not do justice. It is best to see for yourself :)
