Disappointing Experience – Avoid if Possible After a long 4-hour drive from Matlock Derbyshire to 1 Rhys Terrace in Pennal, I deeply regretted my decision to stay here. Upon arrival, I immediately encountered issues with the toilet, which wouldn’t flush properly. I tried multiple times before calling the owner, who assured me it only “plays up once or twice a year.” However, it remained broken, and after calling again, I was told I would need to wait for a plumber. While waiting, I was appalled by the state of cleanliness in the cottage. There was urine around the toilet seat, and the toilet brush was disgusting. I found dog hair and grit along the skirting boards and around the doors, cobwebs on the ceiling and lampshades, and food remnants in the high chairs. The kitchen bin area was filthy, and it seemed like the place hadn’t been properly cleaned – only the beds and towels had been attended to. To make matters worse, the heating wasn’t working as promised. I had to light a fire to stay warm, and after numerous calls to the owner, I discovered the heating system had been switched off entirely. By 7:00 PM, I had had enough and sent the owner pictures of the unsanitary conditions, but the response was not what I expected. I found myself on the receiving end of a barrage of abuse from the owner, who threatened to evict me if I wasn’t gone by morning. I was in shock, especially as I had come to spend time with family, not to be treated this way. I was terrified and ended up packing my things and leaving the cottage, calling Bookings.com for assistance. My family had to put me up for the night, and I eventually found alternate accommodation the next day. I strongly advise against staying at 1 Rhys Terrace. The lack of cleanliness, poor maintenance, and appalling customer service made for a distressing experience. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere . Incidentally the conversation between myself and the owner was recorded and photographs of the evidence.

We loved the cottage, absolutely beautiful and SO cosy. Beds comfortable, {main bedroom just needs the electric blanket turning around, top to bottom.) Super cosy! Living room was exceptional, beautiful log burner, easy to move furniture if you felt the need to, very cosy. Kitchen was my dream, all the facilities needed and more, well equipped for young children at no extra cost. Lovely dining area, all the equipment to cook a lovely meal., (Would suggest more modern cutlery, just because of the drying process.) We stayed Halloween week and we're surprised at the amount of lovely neighbours with houses decked out for the children. We'll be back for sure!! Host has gone above and beyond to reunite a child with her beloved teddy, which means the world xxx

There was a boiler issue which was raised to us on the way to Wales, thankfully the host gave us permission to use a neighbouring property which saved our holiday. It was a slight inconvenience but meant we could continue our holiday with our children. (Could you imagine cancelling a holiday with young children 😳) All in all, 10/10 xx

Excellent location for exploring. This cottage has everything you need. We especially loved the log fire.

Warm fire

We loved the location of the property. Everything we needed was at the house, ready for us to use. There were toys for children and dogs and also beach towels for everyone to use.

Nothing.

It had the potential to be cosy, nice kitchen, but none of it was particularly clean. I chose it for the walk in shower!

NO HOT WATER FOR THE ENTIRE 3 DAYS! Could only heat by log burner as boiler was broken! I was offered to move into the father in laws house next door. I considered this but it was very old fashioned, cold and un-inviting…not to the standard of property that I’d chosen to book! The bathroom was an over bath shower which I struggle with as I have back/hip issues! The attitude of the owner was very poor, I asked for my money back for the last night as I wanted to find somewhere with hot water but she tried to belittle me by saying that her father in law’s might not be posh but it’s adequate to shower in! I’m not sure why she thinks it’s acceptable to go to the house next door to shower!! It was raining, I had to navigate the getting in process ( do the key safe, turn on immersion ) etc - ridiculous attitude to have!! She knew the boiler wasn’t working as stated she had an engineer out but he couldn’t get it working!

We booked purely for the location close to Dyfi bike park. We chose this property over another because of the games room.

We felt that it could do with a really good clean all over, surfaces a really good wiping down, dusting and shower head and door needs a good scrub., Sofa very worn and generally it felt and looked dirty. Sadly we broke for the games room but the pool table was so warped the boys couldn’t play a proper game. Also no hairdryer but everything else had been thought of.

Dogs hair on the carpet, wooden steps to the chalet is need of replacing, my foot gone through it and pool table is not level.
