This was a warm and cosy house with beautiful natural scenery surrounded. The host was really friendly and helpful. Everything was perfect especially the traditional Latvian sauna. We enjoyed our stay so much.

Nothing. It's just perfect.

Cute and cosy cottage with comfortable beds and linen, clean bathroom, well equipped kitchen and even a sauna to use. Loved the personalised welcome sign at the front and the fresh eggs tasted delicious for breakfast!

Nothing all was perfect.

"It could be a gem of Sigulda, but a few improvements are needed"

6.0

I was really looking forward to this place, a cottage-like experience in Sigulda. The place has a great location, basically "in the middle of nowhere", but at the same time a very short drive (10 minutes) from Sigulda's main sights and services. As a family of three, we had to share our bed with our young daughter, but the other two children had their own beds - all upstairs. The cottage is a nice looking little house with what you might call a small children's room with lots of puzzles and other games (suitable for 4-9 y.o.) - which was definitely a big plus. There is also a trampoline outside, which was also a big plus. The house is small but very manageable for a short stay and a family of five. You can also park right next to the house, there is a Novuss game (well known in the Baltic States), a small terrace in front of the house with some furniture and a small barbecue behind the house. There is also a washing machine (which was good) in the house and even a tumble dryer (which we did not use). All in all, this is the place to stay if you want to be close to nature (but not far from services) in a small cottage-like house with all the privacy the place can offer. There is also air conditioning in the house (on the first floor), but more on that in the cons section. We also appreciated the contactless check-in, the welcome note in the house, the visiting cat, the quick induction plate and a bit of the welcome sign (although I don't think it's really necessary). The best part of the whole experience was the children's room with all the toys in it, but with some additional improvements, renovations and perhaps a different approach to the interior design, this could be a real gem.

When we arrived, the windows were left open for ventilation, so the first task was to hunt flies and gadflies - something I did not want to do on arrival. The area is full of various insects, so keeping the house free of insects should be a priority. There are sticky fly traps next to windows full of dead insects - it was a bit disgusting and unattractive. On a hot summer's day, the second floor, where you are most likely to sleep, gets extremely hot - and the air conditioning on the first floor does not help AT ALL. There was also a "welcome water" in the kitchen, but it was cloudy with some sediment on the bottom. Luckily we had a SUV to get to the house as the road to the cottage is very bumpy, with some larger stones to watch out for - and could be worse on a rainy day. The worst part of the experience was probably the bathroom, which is small (but the sauna is way too big for this cottage) and definitely has some musty odours caused by lack of ventilation and weird black (mouldy) spots in the shower. The water pressure is weak and generally the whole bathroom needs a proper renovation and ventilation. I would also say that the general level of cleanliness is also an issue here, the whole house needs a proper cleaning (juct check the floor under the kitchen sink). The kitchen is small, usable, but again - a weird kitchen tap (with a fancy but useless temperature display) is just awful, water splashes everywhere. The stairs are quite steep and there is no safety gate at the top. The place is just bursting with stuff, some of it broken, some of it useless, light strips and clocks that don't work, stuff that has nothing to do with the house (the Beatles), Latvia or Sigulda - it just seems that useless stuff is thrown into the cottage as part of the decor - but come on, LESS IS MORE.
