Remodeled Cottage in Berkeley/Oakland Rockridge

The neighborhood is nice with many cafe's and restaurants nearby. The ADU is attached to the garages, behind the main apartment building in the back, so it is protected from road noise. The alley in the back is well let at night, and the door code is convenient.

The main issue is the strong musty mildewy smell that permeates the entire space. We tried to air out the place but that did not help. It stuck to our bags and clothes. The space also needs repairs: the toilet rocks when you sit on it and the towel bar is broken. The toilet paper dispenser also needs to be tightened. The futon couch is grimy and needs to be cleaned.

Terrific location, well equipped cottage

Cottage was very cold in November.

The cottage is a sweet little spot, 10 minutes walk from the Rockridge Bart station. As mentioned in earlier reviews, though on a busy street, it is tucked back and you wouldn't know it. It is an excellent value, and is mostly well apportioned if you are looking for a simple stay while you explore the city.

The bed was comfortable, but the fold out couch was atrociously bad, with literally a metal bar in the middle. It was so bad we had to let our all-elbows-and-knees child share the bed with us. The place would be perfectly fine (and is an excellent deal for the price) for a couple. Not recommended if you are looking to put a 3rd person on the fold out. At all.

Conveniently located, good parking, well stocked, responsive owner

There were a couple of issues with the heating and the entry lock, but the owner was very responsive and accomodating.

Good size unit with driveway parking in busy area. Comfy bed and pillows. TV worked nicely. Clean kitchen.

Black mold in bathroom caused me to be sick for 2 days during vacation. Host came across as rude on the phone when I had issues with the app and entering the unit.

Chris was in email contact with me and explained the location as well as the means of gaining access. I arrived much earlier than expected, but he was accommodating and the cottage was very clean.

There was only one heating element and that was in the bedroom-sitting area. Berkeley was having a cool spell, and the bathroom (without heat) was VERY cold, as well as the kitchen area. The towels in the bathroom did not have enough heat to get dry in 24 hours, so I had to hang them over a folding chair in front of the heater in the bedroom-sitting area. I ended up putting extra blankets on the bed at night, and hoping my towels would be dry by morning.

The location is excellent. The host responds quickly to any issues. The price is fair for what you get.

We couldn’t stream any content on the TV and had to watch antenna TV. We couldn’t get Chrome-cast to work even though it was embedded in the TV. The Wi-Fi went off and on a few times in the middle of important times. There was no stove top for cooking.
