Being right by the canal and talking to the boat owners as they passed the lock gates

Loved this canal side historical cottage along with the warmth of Paul and Sandy's welcome. The cottage is well-provisioned to be fully self-catered with plenty of room for four adults, It has a truly rural appearance, tucked away down leafy lanes, nonetheless being within easy reach of larger towns and historical sites in the area. The hosts are located nearby without being intrusive and the living room provides sight onto canal-boats navigating the lock and the occasional canal-path user.

Nothing not to like, just be aware, the dimensions of the en-suite loo in one of the bedrooms are quite tight.

Lovely quaint cottage with active narrow-boat canal next to the property. The host was on hand and very friendly, welcoming us when we arrived with some very nice snacks. The kitchen is well appointed and had a stock of high end staples such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The location seems remote with a small but well made road leading to the property, however, actually there are nice and pubs and shops less than 10 minutes away.

We had two elderly people in our party who found the steps down to the front door and from the kitchen to the lounge and bedrooms a bit of a challenge. However, if the are reasonably mobile it is not difficult and adds character to the property.

Right beside the lock, so enjoyed watching narrow boats traveling by.

Mattress in bedroom with en suite toilet dips badly in the middle requiring gripping the edge of the bed, or rolling into the middle. Not satisfactory. Dishwasher not working.

Excellent location, very comfortable accommodation.

Property described as "all on one level". We were disappointed to find 8 steps to reach front door and another 8 inside ,from kitchen to rest of property. Having a life long interest in canals,this was to be a perfect holiday location, but not so The owners were helpful and pleasant.

Bucket Lock Cottage is a very large family home, and the cottage that is for rent is a small section of the home (like an annex) that has its own bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, living area. It is all connected so we can hear each other through the walls / floors (not an issue for us though!) We enjoyed our stay at the cottage! The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. As they were living next to us, it was very easy to knock on the door if we needed some help, and they were incredibly helpful. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We appreciated the games in the cottage which was fun for the children to play with. Being in front of the locks was very special. Our children enjoyed “helping” the canal boats open and close the locks. We were fortunate to see two canal boats pass in the 2 nights we stayed. We also enjoyed walking along the canal path and seeing another 6 locks over a short walking distance. The cottage is right on the public footpath. People would be walking past within 30cm of the front window and sometimes stop to peer in (with hands cupped around their faces to try and get the best look possible). This happened one night and we just grinned and waved to them, much to their horror when they realised. It was funny! :) If you are looking for privacy and anonymity, you won’t get that here. If you are looking to be part of the buzz, action, have a helping hand nearby, this is perfect. Quite unique being able to stay in an old lock cottage!

As we cooked each evening, it was disappointing that the dishwasher wasn’t working for us. We ended up handwashing after each of our family meals. It would be great for future guests if this was repaired or replaced. Would have appreciated some blackout curtains in the bedroom. We were waking up at 5:30/6am due to the light, which would be more difficult in the summer.

Beautiful location, clean, comfortable, cosy and full of character. We will definitely be back

Bucket lock cottage is a unique, beautiful, comfortable, relaxing cottage, in a very peaceful area. We enjoyed walking on the canal paths. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. We would recommend.
