Casas do Baleeiro - Whaler's Houses by Rentery Madeira

Nice house in a remote village. It's not a touristic area, is more in the middle of a quiet place. Very nice compared to the rest of the southern cost of Madeira. Canical is a peaceful place, quite close to the stunning landscapes of Ponta do Rosto. The main highway of Madeira ends here and makes the place well connected with both southern and northern side of the Island. Host ready to help, no major hassle. Nice shops quite close.

Wifi is quite erratic, water pressure is not very strong. Kitchen equipment basic but no major lack of utensils. The bar in front of the house is noisy until after 11.00 p.m.

There was no hot water

The apartment on the first floor is all right and relatively comfortable. Nice to have a private terrace, and had the weather been better, we would have enjoyed it more. Canical is a relaxed small town (except for that mentioned below) and good to stay in, if you want to avoid the noise and hassle in Funchal. Many local restaurants and a few good local shops.

One local bar opposite the house can be noisy and so is the exhaust fan in the bathroom. The double bed is hard. The kitchen lacks a few necessities, which we had to buy ourselves.

Perfect little place on the edge of Madeira. The flat/house is fully stocked for a longer stay as well - kitchen fully loaded, TV, bedding, couches, everything's perfect. Authentic village location too fully of locals.

Getting Bolt from/to there can sometimes be a struggle but if you're renting a car - not a problem at all.

The house was immaculately clean, well-equipped, and full of character, an ideal place to relax after a day exploring Madeira. The location is great, peaceful, near fantastic hiking trails and viewpoints. Waking up and drinking a coffee on the patio was heaven. Everything was well taken care of, thanks to André, a fantastic host organizing everything with attention to detail. This was my home from home during this visit, and I'm already planning on returning. Highly recommend to anyone seeking comfortable and well situated accommodation in Madeira!

The apartment was small but everything was there and just right for 2 people. There were no tourism within the next surrounding. In terms of shopping for everyday needs, this was a great advantage as prices were much lower than in regions with tourism. A small supermarket and a bakery were only 2 minutes away.

The apartment was well equipped. A few egg cups and a thermos would be a good addition

Nice & confortable litle appartment in town, close to shops, restaurants, whale museum, port, hikes and only 15 min from the airport.
