The Missions House

This was the end of our holiday and the highlight. Hermanus is a beautiful town and the house was a perfect beachside getaway with so much history and style

It’s the perfect little getaway where history meets modernization. I loved that so many parts of the home kept its original charms but met modern designs so elegantly.

Other than there only being one shower and weak wifi, we had an amazing stay and all other needs we catered for. I loved that everything was so close by and it was easily accessible to the highway. We felt extremely safe and comfortable.

Mission's House is a beautiful historical home with stone walls, wooden floors and ceilings and beautiful period features. It has been comfortably and tastefully furnished, we loved it. And, although we had a very cold, rainy weekend, the fireplaces provided excellent cozy heat and we were very happy. Very close to walks along the sea in both directions, restaurants and all amenities and the larger town of Hermanus a quick drive away. Our hosts were so welcoming, highly recommended

Breakfast was not included. The location was ideal and perfect and the old house beautiful.

We felt that there was a misrepresentation ..the advertisement stated that we were booked at the mission house and would have had the whole property at our disposal for the duration of our stay. Netflix and Wi-Fi were also advertised as part of the package. On arrival we were showed to the Tree House and informed that we were not staying in the main house. We were then left without amenities to make our own food and had no Netflix or TV to watch. When we complained to the owner we were told that they normally have oversea visitors who watch stuff on their laptops or tablets. I then had to lend my laptop to my husband to watch the cricket. The owner then suggested we could use the Netflix in the main house, but there was no manual or instructions given as to how to operate the TV. Due to the fact that we couldn't make our own food, we asked permission to use the kitchen in the main house. The owner forgot to unlock the house for use, so we were stuck without a microwave or stove to prepare or warm up food. We realize that the owner cannot be held responsible for power outages due to load shedding, but we were stuck without power for al whole day! When the owner arrived at the Mission in the afternoon to collect stuff from her studio, we complained about the fact that we had no power for the whole day she found out that something in her laundry must have tripped the power! We found her attitude very nonchalant and non-caring and not attentive at all! Had we known that we were not going to stay in the main house, we would have booked elsewhere. We especially booked at the Mission House because we love old and historical buildings. Being an art lover and with a master's degree in Afrikaans Literature I especially would have loved to say in the Mission House who had close connections with the authors of the "Sestiger " movement like Jan Rabie, Uys Krige and Andre P Brink to name but a few. All in all a very disappointing experience.

Everything clean and in excellent condition. The courtyard is so peaceful, with the birds and well cared for garden. Glenda and Braelea are very good hosts.

The Tree House is a separate upstairs unit which is private and quiet. The room has large windows which allow for the sea breeze to gently blow through during a hot Summer day. One can easily walk to the beach or to the coffee shop or the small general store. There is a private entrance.

Travellers with restricted mobility need to be aware of the steep steps leading up to the treehouse and that there is no shower, but a bath which may pose a difficulty. The room has a kettle only and is not serviced daily.
