Open living family home in the Winelands

It was spacious.

There we are a few discrepancies with this property. Firstly, despite being advertised as being within the winelands, the house is right in the middle of Surburban Bellville. Considering we had booked here in order to be close to The Champagne Festival in Franschhoek & Stellenbosch it was a major disappointment. The property also has the owners parents living upstairs in a partitioned unit as well as in the garage in what seems to be another unit. It is pretty much the same house – we could hear them vacuum in the morning, and it is no wonder, despite all effort to be extremely noise conscious, the owner brought up noise complaints. It is worth mentioning that is the owners full time home by the looks of things because all of their personal possessions were still in the house (school uniforms, computers, skateboards). And on the first night, her two teenage sons came to the house asking that we cut the cable ties off the cupboards so that they could get their “stash”, harassing us for food etc. This interaction went on for a good 30 minutes during what was supposed to be an intimate & private birthday dinner. There is a failure to manage the property. We asked for an extension which took hours to bring. When cooking breakfast the next day there was no gas and we were asked “are you using the stove properly”. Finally, and the biggest problem of all was on our second night, there was loadshedding (as expected) but when the power came back on the grid, there seemed to be a fault with the house itself. Despite calls and attempts to get the owner to look into this, we were met with belligerent and condescending responses of “I’m not an electrician, what do you want me to do”. We eventually were able to resolve ourselves by pushing the mains box test button which powered the house back up, but her refusal to acknowledge nor assist with an issue that was clearly within her responsibility to do so was infuriating.

beautiful inside and out esp Lizelle was lovely and was able to chat via messaging . she encouraged us to enjoy the property .

family too close to area rented was a bit anxious to make any sort of noise and settle as owners personal items still in some wardrobes and in shower .

We didn't know that the mother of the owner stayed inside the house, top floor. This was never mentioned and we were surprised to have someone coming out from the same house to tell that we were making noise and that she wanted to sleep. Now the owner is refusing to refund our breakage deposit because her mother complained about noise.

Everything, from the open living to the warm welcome from the host. Highly recommend this place.
