STUNNING FARM COTTAGES at South Downs Rural Retreats

The location, the peacefulness, the views. Ash cottage was just right for what we wanted. The welcome package was very nice to have at the beginning of our stay.

Would have been useful to have a recycle container in the cottage to collect up the recycle before taking to the bin outside.

The location is lovely and was convenient for us. We stayed in Silver birch cottage. The cottage was clean and tidy. Comfortable bed. Nice linen and towels. Large walk in shower with toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and shower gel) Kitchen utensils were good with a microwave, stove, oven and fridge plus a Coffee machine (although we didn’t use). There was also a washing machine and clothes rail which was handy. WiFi was good as was TV services. We were provided with a pint of milk in the fridge and fairly standard complimentary tea/coffee sachets and biscuits. We had a lovely view to watch the sunsets and the cows looked lovely as we drove in and out of the farm.

I had informed the hosts of our expected arrival time and when we arrived, Emma called on my mobile to say they had to go out (which was fair enough) and once unpacked, could we move our vehicle to the parking area. We had no idea where this was as there was no signage but discovered it a day later! That was the only contact we had with our hosts. Unfortunately the walls were wafer thin in our cottage and we could hear everything from the neighbouring guests which made us feel very uncomfortable and conscious that we had to keep our own conversations low and noise to a minimum. The hanging space was limited, so longer clothing (dresses in particular) had to hang elsewhere. Not a major gripe but a USB socket might have been a welcome addition to the facilities. The frying pan and saucepans were a nightmare to clean and not non stick! There was an ironing board but we could find no iron! I’m sure if we contacted Emma she would have sorted it but we managed without! The curtains in our bedroom could do with being blackout as early light mornings forced us to wake up!! The cottage is next to a barn with metal doors which we could hear being opened quite early on in the morning. We appreciate it’s a working farm but not ideal for guests at such a close proximity! We hope you accept these comments as information and feedback for you, rather than complaints. We’d love to return but perhaps if the availability was there, we’d like to try an alternative cottage.

Lovely clean quiet cottage. Very comfy bed and lounge furniture too, which makes a change to be able to relax in the evening. Looking across the fields watching hare every morning whilst eating breakfast was a pleasure.

Toilet roll holder needs to be replaced as is broken and falls of wall constantly.

Location. Very quiet as it’s on a farm, sound isolation and windows keep noise out. Heating and heated flooring worked well. Emma was super friendly and supportive.

Nothing, I will probably look to stay here again in future.

The property was quiet with lovely views. It was clean and comfortable. Good facilities, towels crockery etc was provided. Very relaxing.
