La Cala on Acquaviva

Excellent stay! The Villa La Cala is a little vintage gem at a 5 minute walking distance from the beautiful Acquaviva Bay. The house is a 1960 vintage style building with various tables, lamps and interior design elements in an original 60s Italian style. The first floor has 4 double rooms (one with bunk beds) with a seaside view visible from every window. The ground floor has a big kitchen and dining room that come up to the big bbq area with a pizza oven. The kitchen is a perfect mix between an old style with original cementine ceramic and modern elements like a glass ceramic hob. We had an amazing time grilling fish and vegetables and tasting “focaccia di cipolle” that Elios kindly grabbed for us from his garden. He also organized for us a wine tasting experience (where we enjoyed some grapes as well) and a boat tour! Hearing the roosters in the morning and seeing the sheep only added to the delightful atmosphere of a real Italian experience at the villa. Hope to see you next year Elios! The location of the property is excellent, with private steps down to the road that leads directly to the beautiful beach. The style of the property is brilliant, with lots of quirks and interesting features in the rooms, and a wonderful terrace looking over the sea front. We loved the property itself and the location, couldn’t fault it.

The drainage system wasn’t the best, can only assume due to the age of the property, and the fact we were 9 people using the facilities. However the host Elios was great and always very helpful at fixing things where needed. The bathrooms were only accessible through 2 of the double rooms, which was fine for us as we were close friends, and would work for families, however wouldn’t recommend if you are travelling with couples/people who wanted more privacy. The aircon also stopped working on the last day, but luckily as it was the last day it didn’t affect our stay as the villa had plenty of fans.
