Scaurbridge Cottage with Hot Tub and Sauna

Very helpful and responsive hosts. Superb sauna and quality hot tub, we all enjoyed spending time here. Lovely, thoughtful gift of prosecco and biscuits which we enjoyed. In short I would say that it is a well equipped cottage and the hosts have tried to hard to cover all bases. Their swift communication on a couple of queries and speed of response in replacing the faulty shower was much appreciated. There is clearly a desire to appeal to a wide and quality holiday let market with both a sauna and a great hot tub. Unfortunately, the minor (first world) irritations mentioned below, which in our view are fairly basic, take away hugely from the icing on the cake items.

A general feeling of dirtiness and dampness throughout the cottage. Our clothes felt very damp by the end of the stay. Broken window in the dining area, the hot water tap in the kitchen only trickled out hot water, a hoover that didn’t work, lack of cutlery- only one fork and knife per person. An inadequate supply and quality of towels- only one small, old towel per person. Jane did kindly give us another set upon request but I felt bad asking for these. For accommodation at this price with ‘exceptional’ ratings we would expect large, good quality towels. With no drying facilities- functioning towel heater or radiators working (there was a plastic rail but this does not dry things when it is raining and damp in the house) we quickly became short on clean, dry towels. Only a handful of logs provided- again with no other heating or warm source other than the sauna, we found this frustrating. Given the majority of positive reviews perhaps our expectations were too high. But overall we felt it was very expensive and lacking in many basic areas, most of which could be fixed quickly.
