Slatehouse Cottage, Drumlanrig

We booked here for a family holiday to celebrate a special birthday and it exceeded all expectations. The cottage itself is beautiful! Has everything you could need for a home from home holiday. The garden area was brilliant for our dogs and it was so gorgeous watching all the sheep and birds in the morning and throughout the day. The grounds walking up and around the castle were beyond stunning. So many walks and historical landmarks a short drive away too to enjoy. Thornhill closeby has some lovely food places for both takeaway and to eat in. We will certainly be back.

Perfect house for a chilled weekend away. The house was easy to find and is completely private. The beds are so comfortable and the house is equipped with everything you could need during your stay. Couldn’t fault the cleanliness of the property either.

The only small issue was the hot tub not being warm for us arriving as it took a few hours for it to warm up and we couldn’t use till the Saturday morning.

The views and the walks around are amazing. Hot tub was lovely.

Lovely comfortable accommodation

We had issues with the hot tub heating up, which took until the Sunday evening to resolve. The staff did come up to the property a couple of times to help, just a bit frustrating that we couldn’t use it more over the weekend

Comfiest and cosiest beds. Liked the overall layout.

Had to strip out the fridge and completely clean it out. Detol sprayed the wooden table and work surfaces too. It just didn’t feel clean. Very sparse complimentary supplies, ie. 4 sugar sachets and 2 ancient cubes in a grubby sugar container, no salt and pepper, no tinfoil or kitchen scissors, etc. This was our 11th trip away together over the years, and whilst the cottage was beautiful inside and the location great, the kitchen wasn’t the cleanest nor the best for starter essentials included that we have experienced over the years. For the price, you need to up your game.

Slatehouse cottage is set is a wonderful location, and so peaceful. The house and all the equipment is very well appointed. We had a great few days with friends, to celebrate together, and take in the countryside walks. The castle itself is in a stunning location, no wonder it was being used for a film set ( Apple TV we found out!)

Loved the comfort and cleanliness of the cottage and the quiet location.

Took first evening to get the hot tub to a usable temperature. Coming from a farming background, it was sad to see such a large number of lame sheep limping past the cottage daily.
