Hamilton House

Good Location, Well laid out, plenty of room for everyone. We would recommend for families as the proximity to the beach was really good, and the House had lots of support items for beach fun - chairs, balls etc. Very good value for money for a large family in the beautiful resort of Lyme Regis.

There were a couple of housekeeping issues - not the fault of the property owner, but whoever was managing it (Lyme Bay Holidays I think). The seagull proof rubbish bag had 5 full rubbish bags in it when we arrived (no room for any more), indicating it hadn't been emptied for a while and it meant there was a smell as you went in and out of the house. Likewise the extractor fan in the 2nd bathroom wasn't working, and one of the taps had a small but persistent leak. None of this spoiled our stay as these are all standard Property Management issues and I am sure they will be resolved.

Lots of room for everyone and the 2 staircases up to the attic room were lots of fun for the kids. The location is perfect, 2 minute walk to the beach, lots of lovely pubs close by and a fish and chip shop 30 seconds away, very handy. The master bedroom was great - airy,and big and the beams throughout the house were a reminder how old the house is. The uneven flooring was easy to negotiate but again a reminder of the history. Pillows were fat and comfortable as were the duvets. The sofas in the lounge were huge and very comfortable. The generous ‘goody bag’ was full of lovely food and drink treats and a lovely touch. The shower pressure was fabulous and much better than ours at home so we enjoyed showering.

There are literally dozens of glasses(wine, champagne flutes, tumblers etc) which filled up the tiny amount of cupboard space in the kitchen so we had nowhere to leave our food. The welcome pack suggested we leave food in the basement room/utility room but that wasn’t accessible from the house but by a separate door at the front of the house. Not ideal. The mattress in the master bedroom was like a trampoline and after reading a review from 2021 that said it needed replacing, I was expecting that 3years later it might have been done. It was uncomfortable and way past useful. Owners: it needs replacing NOW For the price you pay we expected some toiletries, but there was only two toilet rolls, no shampoo, conditioner or shower gel. It felt like a premium property with a price to match but done on the cheap. There’s no condiments which are normal to have even in mobile home holiday accommodation. The front door key snapped off in the lock which can happen to anyone BUT the ‘emergency’ phone number given in the info pack was only manned in office hours so was useless at 9pm on a Sunday evening. Had one of our group not been inside the house at the time, we would have been locked out all night. The man who came with more keys the next day was really nice and equally shocked that we didn’t have the correct emergency number.

Locality to sea

Bumped head a few times on low ceilings in some areas. Utility room was damp and the washing machine had debris in it. Felt it was a little pricey for the quality of accommodation
