Villa Marco

The house is actually in Lakones which is on the hill above Paleokastritsa so it has amazing views. We loved the quiet and local village aspect to it, with the amenities of a bakery and several restaurants close by, and were lucky enough to experience a street party the night we left where there was dancing to Greek music. Villa Marco was fabulous - we were provided with all we needed for breakfast, the beds were very comfortable and the accommodation spacious. An added bonus was Lakones is on the route to Agios Georgios, a beautiful quiet beach just 25 min drive away.

You definitely need a car - it's about a 10 - 15 min drive to get to the beaches in Paleokastritsa. So if you're wanting to stroll to the beaches this is not the place for you!

Staying at Nikos house was one of the highlights of our month long trip and probably the best Booking property we've ever stayed in. First, the house was where Nikos and his family used to live, so it has everything you need to live there comfortably for as long as you want. We could have stayed there indefinitely and were sad to leave. Second, the location a ways up the hill from the beach is great, as it is less touristed and gives you a closer feel to staying in a local village. It also facilitates an active trip as you can hike out the door up to the summit of the nearby mountain, down to the beach, or traverse to the Angelokastro fortress. There are also multiple family restaurants nearby that are intimate with great food. Third, Nikos was helpful and gave us information that made our trip better. Specifically, he lent us Greek hiking poles, which are quite handy given the amount of hiking we did and the terrain on Corfu. He also put us in touch with his friend Vasileios who oversee the Corfu trail. Vasileios recommended several beaches that are inaccessible to cars (i.e. accessible by a long hike or boat only) which synced well with our goal of hiking and avoiding the heavily touristed beaches. Through him we also learned about and competed in the Old Town Trail Race in Corfu city, which was another highlight of our trip.

Great holiday, lovely villa and exceptional hosts. Beautiful views from the balcony. Peaceful location and Lakones had all the essentials including excellent tavernas and a small local supermarket for supplies. A car is needed to make the most of the location.

Would have liked to have stayed longer.

Beautiful, comfortable and spacious, the house is very clean and well-equipped in every way. Nikos met us at the property with a warm welcome and lots of advice about the local area. He and Ioanna provided a welcome package of milk, juice, fruit and wine etc. which was much appreciated after a long journey. The stunning views are probably the best we have seen in a holiday rental - it’s difficult to tear yourself away! Lakones is a typical Greek village with lots of history and plenty of facilities - a good local shop and plenty of tavernas/cafes. We felt part of the community by the end of our stay as the locals were so friendly and helpful. Dolce Cafe, the cafe in the centre of the village and George’s Cellar were some of our favourites and we got to know the proprietors quite well. We also explored the area by foot, taking hikes, visiting the Angel Castle and walking down to Paleokastritsa. The pathway to Paleokastritsa is pretty steep and rustic so a good pair of shoes are useful. We walked back up the road which was much easier. Despite the climb, the walk is well worth it as the area is beautiful and you get to see it up close on foot. If we holiday in Corfu in the future, we’d definitely stay here again.

I do a lot of research when looking for a holiday rental including reading reviews by other travellers. It certainly paid off with Villa Marco. I really can’t think of anything that could have been better :-)

Wonderful house! And the host is amazing!

clean and spacious with a gorgeous view. Plenty of cookware and dish ware to make meals in the home. Small grocery store with homemade bread and local produce and a butcher within walking distance . Marco is a very nice host with a great sense of humor.
