"Delfina is the most amazing, lovely, generous host! She truly went out of her way to make us feel at home in her home -"

The location! And the home itself is absolutely stunning - a historical treasure. Right off the main square with natural stone and wood. It feels like a piece of history.

"Welcoming Classic Town House close Douro valley"

10.0

Classic well restored main square house. Great hostess with glass of port welcome. High ceilings, French windows, lovely exposed granite walls. Bedrooms upstairs lovely spacious and light. Kitchen well equipped, though knives blunt! Short walk to busy street full of shops & cafe. Really local town. With good Palaeolithic site & museum down road

All in great shape. Church bells very close only ring for mass.

This is such a spectacular home, filled to the brim with amenities and décor. There's plenty of space for families or groups of friends. The location is also terrific: It's in the historical center of town, next to the main church. Also, Delfina is a terrific host and will make you feel immediately at home. She pulls out all the stops. We'll definitely come back.

"We came on bikes from Pocinho station. If you do that be aware it’s a thousand foot climb. We were only here one night,"

What a gorgeous, historical and huge home. Ancient stone walls, charming decor, and right in the old part of town. The proprietors met us and they were so sweet and charming.

"Heaven"

10.0

We fell in love with this house. Historical but beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. Delfina, the host, is charming and was responsive to our every need. Situated in picturesque main square, close to several excellent restaurants (Ta-se Bem and Aldeia Douro) and just yards from a great coffee shop/bar/eaterie called Prymas. Foz Coa itself is very peaceful, and a great jumping off point to walk the trails of the Parque Arqueologico and visit the Museu Coa. We stayed for 2 weeks in May/June and it was a wrench to leave. I can also recommend Lurdes Cabeileiros for a haircut!

Having to leave! We didn't have a car and still did a lot, but driving would obviously open up even more of the area when you visit

"Excellent place to stay in center of town."

9.0

Dead smack in the center of the village. We were greeted by the owner's mother and father who could not have been friendlier - gave us the keys, hugs and kisses, showed us all of the important things in the unit. There is no parking reserved for the unit but availability of on-street parking - or spaces in the nearby public parking lot - was never an issue. We chose this unit in large part due to the availability of a washing machine - it doesn't appear in any of the Booking.com photos but it is there in the upstairs bathroom. It worked wonderfully and allowed us to do laundry midway thru our trip and thus pack half the clothes we'd have otherwise brought. The 'Café Havaneza' (within sight of the unit) was a fine place to have a beer in the hot afternoon - owner very friendly and speaks English. The nearby 'Prymus' was an excellent place to get paninis for lunch or dinner - 6 euros for a sandwich that is so large that one - shared between the both of us - was more than enough for dinner once a salad was added. We ate most of our dinners in (from the sandwich shop and a salad we made ourselves) but the one time we went out it was to 'Restaurante Tá-se bem' - I wish we'd gone there more b/c it was EXCELLENT. There are two little grocery stores in town but skip those and go to the 'big grocery' - the 'Intermarché' on the edge of town is MUCH better stocked with everything vs. those little groceries - it even has a small hardware and electrical section, covered parking, and its own gas station.

Be prepared for very loud church bells roughly at sunrise when you might otherwise be wanting to sleep. The kitchen could use a few more cutting knives - it only had two and both were so dull as to be mostly useless - fortunately we didn't need to cut/chop much more than vegetables for salad. The unit is somewhat 'lighting challenged' - not enough lighting fixtures and we also found a few burned-out light bulbs - did a little re-arranging of the bulbs as well as a few fixtures themselves (e.g. standing floor lamp that is upstairs was brought downstairs and used in the dining room for our visit). If you are likely headed from the unit to the Archaeology park/museum, be wary of the directions that Google Maps may provide - it led us down alleys in town that were almost impassible and we had a very small car - look at what it suggests and adjust accordingly. The unit's hot water heater is one of those 'tankless' kind that starts heating water as soon as you turn on the hot water tap. The thing shuts off the instant you turn off the hot water and then has to go thru its entire start-up cycle again the instant you turn the hot water tap back on. The unit will heat water only when the hot water tap is opened far enough to trigger it. You'll get used to it and develop your own 'strategy' of how to best use it so that you have the hot water you want for showers, dish washing, etc. We were always concerned that we were going to accidentally lock ourselves out of the unit - the door locks (without the need for a key) when you pull it shut - it would be nice to have a lockbox outside the door with a spare set of keys to prevent accidental lockout.
