Le Querciolaie Monte Cavallo - entire house

We had a pleasant stay at this property and, overall, enjoyed our time exploring this beautiful part of Tuscany. The location is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights. It’s surrounded by stunning countryside, only a short drive from the natural hot springs of Saturnia, and makes an excellent base for visiting nearby towns such as Pitigliano, Sorano and Manciano. The views from the property are beautiful and really capture the charm of the region. The house itself is comfortable and well-equipped. The kitchen has everything needed for preparing meals, and the upstairs has been updated and includes air conditioning, which was much appreciated. The downstairs is more dated, but still perfectly functional. We also appreciated that the windows are fitted with shutters and fly screens, although a few of the screens could use some repair. Communication with the contact person was excellent throughout our stay. Messages were answered quickly and helpfully, which we really appreciated.

The garden and grounds are spacious, full of flowers and plants, and create a lovely atmosphere. That said, some of the terraces and walkways felt a little overgrown, and a bit more maintenance would make the outdoor areas even more inviting. Some of the outdoor furniture is also showing its age, with a few pieces damaged or worn and ready for replacement. There are a few things that future guests should be aware of. During our stay it was extremely hot, and although the upstairs has air conditioning, a few portable fans for use elsewhere in the house would have made a big difference. We also found the Wi-Fi to be quite slow. One of us needed it for a video call, and unfortunately the connection struggled with frequent glitches. We were also unable to get the television working. The property is accessed via a long unpaved road that is quite rocky and becomes extremely dusty in dry weather. It’s certainly manageable, but guests should know what to expect before arriving. One thing that made us slightly uncomfortable was that the gardener came onto the property twice during our stay without prior notice. We completely understand that the grounds require maintenance, but because we had rented the entire property, we would have appreciated being informed in advance so we knew to expect someone on site. A simple message beforehand would have avoided that feeling of our privacy being interrupted. One final note for anyone visiting in summer: mosquitoes were abundant during our stay, and we all ended up with a large number of bites despite the fly screens on the windows. Of course, this is simply part of being in the Tuscan countryside and not something the owners can prevent, but anyone who is sensitive to mosquito bites should definitely come prepared with repellent.
