It was authentic and central in the tiny village

There was no coffee provided, which is standard for every BnB or hotel I have stayed in to make guests feel comfortable and welcome.there was a very strong smell of smoke particularly in the bedroom, and you had to sleep with the door open to get some air. There were people just outside the apartment until at least 1am talking and shouting every night so it was hard to sleep.

The location in the town was great and easy to get to plus the view from the kitchen window was amazing.

We didn’t mind that the bathroom was a little ‘out of the house’, just that the shower was a little small for a big guy like me however, that's not taking away from the overall stay and experience. It was great.

Loved being in a historic, unique home. It’s unlike any other place I’ve stayed and really helped give a sense of what life in Castelmezzano was/is like

The bathroom! A better explanation of what to expect would have been helpful. It was a cold climb to make in the middle of the night.

The experience of living in an actual cave and the uniqueness of this special unit. If you want a fancy hotel go elsewhere but if you want to have a real rural Italian experience, stay here. From the people on the streets, market below and the LOCAL bar you will be completely inserted in to the everyday life. We will be back. Don't forget to hike both villages Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa. It's worth the drive.

I didn't like reading the reviews of this special place. Rustic, yes.. Functional, yes.. Tiny shower but I made it work.

Das war ein interessantes und historisches Ferienhaus direkt im Dorf nähe Dorfplatz gelegen. Ein total uriges Erlebnis dort zu wohnen und man kann dort wie die Menschen vor Urzeiten leben. In der Wohnung war alles vorhanden was man braucht und richtig gemütlich war es auch im alten Gemäuer. Ein kleiner Supermarkt ist direkt vor der Tür und zum Parkplatz geht man ca. 10 Minuten hinunter. Der Anblick von Castelmezzano allein ist schon eine Reise wert, die Lage mit den Felsen ist unvergleichlich schön und auch am Abend mit Beleuchtung und Sonnenuntergang wunderschön. Im Dorf gibt es auch Lokale zum Essen und Trinken, am besten aber sich vorher informieren. Eine kleine Wanderung zu den Felsen und um das Dorf herum bietet immer wieder neue Perspektiven. Auch eine Fahrt zum Nachbar-Felsenort Pietrapertosa ist sehr lohnenswert. Sehr schön waren die Wasserfälle von St. Fele oder die Ruinen von Venosa oder Acarenza nördlich von Castelmezzano. Besonders beindruckend ist eine Fahrt zum Geister-Ruinen-Dorf Craco oder durch die typische Basilikata-Landschaft bei Alliano. Vor allem die Sassi von Matera sind ein besonderes Highlight, was man nicht versäumen sollte. Der Aufenthalt in Castelmezzano war schon was Besonderes, es waren sehr schöne Tage dort und kann das auf jeden Fall weiter empfelen.
