It’s a bit noisy early in the morning.. but that is to be expected on a main street

I chose this place on purpose knowing it had some less than favourable reviews, I prefer to make up my own mind. I’m 46, female, travelling alone (purchasing a house in the city) and on a budget - I prefer spending money on good food and wine, which are both abundant here, so I am happy with basic facilities. I’m not expecting a 5* hotel for this price, I just need a bed and a shower, I found this cosy and affordable, a real insight into living in this city, it is in a great location, easy walk into Sulmona through the Villa, I found plenty of free parking for my hire car by the stadium round the corner all day/night. There’s also a table and chair to eat at/work at, where I could set up my laptop with perfect 4G reception. If you are staying longer there’s a mini kitchen, ideal if you aren’t eating out every day. I had no problem with the stairs, it’s a historic property and expected that they might be a little steeper than modern properties. Walking round old towns and cities in Abruzzo you soon get used to climbing steps 😉It’s a little dated but totally functional and clean, I’ve stayed in more “modern” places that were not to my taste either, it doesn’t matter to me. I would definitely stay again.

Minor niggles, that didn’t really affect me but might bother others - the humming of the fridge is audible since you’re sleeping in the same room, also dripping water in the bathroom, only a partition wall away - the owners are aware as there’s a tub catching the drips, I know it’s not easy to get plumbers when it’s not an emergency (it isn’t!). I kept the balcony doors open because I like fresh air and a cool room, so I could hear cars on the road outside - being close to the city centre it starts getting busy quite early, but again didn’t bother me.

This is an excellent choice if you are on a budget. There are few, if none self contained apartments available at this price. Location is great, adjacent the Cathedral and football stadium. Sometimes there are matches on Wednesday afternoons. The host was very friendly and meet me at the railway station, and took me to the accommodation.

A comfortable bed with a good mattress, new and clean bathroom. Good location: within walking distance both from the centre and the railway station (particularly good for those who are doing the historic train). Effective communication from the owner (although I asked if there was a kettle in the apartment, he said yes, and there isn't).

The place is absolutely tiny, everything is on top of each other. The photos masterfully conceal how small the place is.The balcony looks onto a dirty wall of the next building. We could hear absolutely every word of the man who stayed in the next room. I would imagine no WiFi is a problem for those who don't have an Italian sim (we do), and I can't understand why the owner wouldn't provide such basic service: it would cost about 25 euros a month and the wifi could be shared between the two apartments. He might then be able to raise the price by 5 euros, which would more than cover the costs and the place would appeal to a wider range of travellers, resulting in more stays (a tip for the owner 😀).

I like the way how much helpful is the host Room was equipped with everything single traveller would need. He helped with the things which are not related to accommodation at all. Such as going to the office of local travel agency and send it's location or guide me to the proper shop to find the bus tickets. Thank you very much!
