"A beautiful, peaceful, relaxing place to stay"

8.0

Living in a trullo was a great experience. Trullo il Zippo is a serene and relaxing place to use as a base. It was close enough to the main attraction of Alberobello but be prepared for the very narrow "roads" (1-way) to get out into the main 2-way roads. However, we hardly encountered any cars going into and out of the trullo. It was very clean, charmingly decorated both inside and outside of the house. Kitchen had most everything one would need to prepare homemade meals, if desired. Wi-fi was okay. There were times when it was fast and times when it froze. As Maria explained, we were in the countryside and access could be intermittent. Tap water is not potable. Host provided a decent supply of drinking water bottles and a couple in the ref. Welcome wine (rosé) and a bag of small round biscuits were provided upon arrival and it was much appreciated. There were times when there was no hot water. The first time it happened, Maria immediately came to fix the problem and we watched what she had to do to fix the problem, so we knew what to do if it happened again (which it did, more than a couple of times) and not have to call on her. Francesco, the host constantly checked in with us (by text) to inquire how our stay was coming along and when we brought up an issue, would follow-up to check if it had been resolved. Maria, our contact person is quite a gem. She was very helpful (restaurant suggestions and reservations, for example) and immediately responded and did her best to resolve the situation when we alerted her.

In the interest of avoiding any misunderstanding, I would suggest that the property description and amenities found on booking.com be the same information as that found in the property to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Google translate as a means of communication can only do so much. Yes, there was an English translation on the sheet provided in the house but a little more detail on some of the items would go a long way. 1. The property advertises 2 bathrooms but fails to mention that the 2nd clean and seemingly new bathroom is outside of the house. 2. We very much wanted to do our part in the recycling efforts. I would suggest that more specific instructions be included in the sheet provided at the property and stick on labels in different languages on the bins. Exactly what "Dry residue" meant continues to be a mystery. It should be stated at the onset that the guests are expected to dispose of the trash and recyclables themselves at a facility several kilometers from the property. In fairness, a card to open the bins is provided. 3. There was an additional charge of 5€ for each set of towels provided that we had assumed came with the published rate on booking.com. I would like to respectfully suggest that this charge just be included or added to the published rate for a stay at the trullo. Then, indicate that if a guest needed any extra towels, it would trigger an additional charge. 4. There were extra pillows but no pillow cases were provided. 5. On our 2nd day, the coffeemaker stopped working, which we reported to the owner. It was never fixed but there were several moka pots in the property which we used to make coffee.

"Very good"

8.0

Delightful Trullo cottage along a quiet (and very narrow!) country lane that was a short drive to the town of Alberobello. Our host Francesco was there to great us and to walk us through the cottage to help us understand all the amenities. It was cool on our arrival (end of March) and it took a few hours for the stone cottage to heat up, but once it did we had a great evening in the bright and friendly kitchen.

The tap water is not potable and as a result we could use only bottled water. We did not know this at the time we booked (perhaps I missed it on the facilities description, or it may have been a temporary situation). This is the only item that detracted from a lovely countryside property.
