"Lovely old cottage. Authentic and well-located."

8.0

It has classic Machiya style - beautiful architecture and rooms. Perfect for a family or two couples wanting to experience some authentic old Kyoto living.

This is one of a number of machiya and this one was restored a while ago. So a few of the doors and screens are fragile and need careful handling - so not a good place for a family with lively children. It is designed for summer, so even though there are wall heaters in every room, it wouldn’t be suitable for deep winter in Kyoto. Too many of those authentic old doors and windows let in drafts. Finally, the doors are 175cm high - not good for tall guests!
