Basseo33 Suite

Basseo 33 is the perfect holiday home. We will absolutely not only highly recommend the apartment but will return to it on our next visit to Lecce. The hosts, Laura & Nino, were gracious & went out of their way to ensure that our stay was the best it could be.

I'll start by saying that if I could give this property a 20/10, I would. I'm smitten. I feel qualified to make this over-the-top review and comparison with countless rentals over decades of travel. Over the past 30+ years of traveling professionally as airline crew members, we always try to stay in unique and/or rustic lodging when we travel on our off-time to worldwide destinations. Laura's Lecce apartment may be the most amazing (and romantic), thus far. The pictures don't do it justice. It looks like the palatial apartment setting from an HBO series about a Renaissance Medici family. All of the furnishings are authentic, exquisite antiques, including the brass cupid bed. However, the bathroom is huge, with modern fixtures; it has it's own zone of cooling/heating system. The kitchen is also modern. A generous platter of locally, handmade confections was offered on the dining table when we arrived. There were bottles of spring water, milk, jams, butter, coffee, tea, sodas, juice and wine stocked for us on arrival. Our host, Laura, cheerfully greeted us from the window of the apartment, and spent quite a while explaining not only the apartment but also things to do in the area. The lodging is set in a quaint, narrow stone street, almost in the center of the ancient district of Lecce, literally 10 minutes walk to the Roman amphitheater. I could write volumes.

We loved everything! No room for improvement.

Laura and Nino were exceptional and the apartment was six star. Very centrally located. Lots to see and do close by. Happy to recommend to anyone. Will miss Basseo 33.

There is nothing to dislike.

Gorgeous studio apartment, high ceilings & exposed Lecce brick & traditional arches. The property owners were super helpful & friendly. Brilliant location right in the old town. We loved our stay here!

We loved everything about Marco Basseo 33! It has been so lovingly & creatively decorated by Nino and Laura - such an elegant mixture of history & jazz, with exquisite attention to detail. As an escape from the afternoon heat, it was a lovely, comfortable & cool respite. Sleeping accommodations were very comfortable. They were able to provide an extra bed for our daughter and the space was large enough to accommodate us all. We were also provided plenty of drinking water and delicious treats for coffee & breakfast. The location was ideal - just off one of the lively areas of town, but far enough to mitigate any late-night noise (with the help of our hosts ingenious bookcase solution). And finally, Laura was so generous with her support and guidance during our stay.

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to stay in this beautifully appointed 17th century apartment! The owners have tastefully furnished the apartment, yet have ensured every comfort facility is there. Close to everything, a definite highlight in my trip to Puglia!

Everything. The friendly host, apartment full of character and charm was exceptional. We had the best time here and would happily return back. Excellent location in the historic heart of Lecce and great breakfast.

This is one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous places we have ever stayed. Located off a picturesque street right in the old town, we walked through an arch into an idyllic leafy courtyard and through a door into one of the most perfect apartments I've ever seen. Let's start with the fact it's in a 17th century palazzo, but while retaining its character, it's got all the modern touches you need. It's huge, bright and airy with large shuttered windows overlooking the lovely street, and the ceiling above the bed is a star vault - so lovely to wake up in this space each morning. The décor is simply divine, with such extraordinary attention to detail everywhere. As jazz fans, we loved the photos of jazz musicians, and the huge tuba which stands as a cool piece of art, but there is a also a floor-to-ceiling book shelf with the most fabulous art and travel books about Lecce and Salento. We could've happily just stayed in the apartment all day, reading and enjoying the surroundings. The bed is ridiculously comfortable, as were all the chairs and the couch, and it really felt like a home away from home, right in the heart of this beautiful city. The bathroom also has a fantastic rain shower. There is a cool cocktail bar at the end of the street, and any number of fantastic restaurants within walking distance. Laura is the most wonderful and welcoming host. She gave us info on free parking, and then met us there, walking us to the apartment, giving us a bit of a tour of the area, and then brought us for caffe in ghiaccio and a pasticiotto - local specialties. Not only that, she'd filled the fridge with everything we might need including water and milk, and left bottles of wine, coke and beer. On top of that, she'd filled a cupboard with pasta and snacks, coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, salt and pepper etc... I can't say enough nice things about this place, and we never wanted to leave. We will definitely come back :)
