Garaku an Machiya House

Since Kyoto station is really big, it would be helpful to note which exit to take to walk to the check in desk. Once the exit is identified, it was a close walk

The only complain I had is the futon is the thinnest I have ever slept on. Even a 5 year old did not sleep well because it was so thin. I reached out to the reception and they said they are not able to help because we have 8 people so cant double up the futon. Other than that it was a close walk to Kiyomizu Gojo JR station but it is 25 min walk from the busiest area

Very clean traditional Japanese house in a very quiet neighborhood.

Far from reception desk with no easy access to public transportation. Had difficulty locating the house in the beginning. 15 min. walk from office which is hard if carrying big or many suitcase. Reception will not help w/ luggage transpo if arriving after 3pm.

Before arriving to the Machiya, we had to check in at the office (3 mins away from Kyoto Station). The check-in process was relatively easy - we were given a PIN code and some instructions. The machiya was quite a distance away, so we took a taxi (cost about 700Yen). The machiya was big and spacious. It was relatively clean, and all amenities were provided. The best part of the machiya were the bath tubs.

Only the bedroom and living rooms had heater. There was no heater in the toilet so it was quite cold, although there is a water heater which took some time to warm up. The location was also a bit inaccessible - taxis couldnt get to the front door as it is a bicycle lane and we weren't allowed to drag our luggage in the morning as it will echo through the neighbourhood.
