Orinoco Country Retreat

Located in farmland, peaceful and tranquil. You can see birds and livestock there. A classic property with 3 bedrooms, for family, couple, or solo traveller. At night, you can see the stars very clearly.

Bugs, too many bugs. Very dark at night.

The cottage is set in an absolutely stunning location and well worth the drive. Very quiet and could happily sit in the sunroom and watch the sunset over the hills for weeks. Perfect escape and within fairly easy reach of Abel Tasman and Nelson.

Amazing location and fantastic hosting. I can't recommend this place enough. It was a highlight of the trip.

Beautiful quirky wee cottage in a lovely rural location. It was great to disconnect from the rat race - just what the doctor ordered! The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and we loved the small galley kitchen. The sunroom had a great view and was warm and toasty during the day. There was no log burner which would have been nice but there were plenty of heaters to keep warm including electric blankets. We stayed mid-winter so there was a hard frost every night. However, it was great watching the meteorite shower as there was no light pollution and the night sky was awesome! Our host Mike came to say hello and welcomed us to the cottage which was nice as it was my special birthday weekend. He also respected our privacy. TV and internet reception were superb and there was plenty of hot water for a relaxing bath in the decent sized bathtub. I would recommend this cottage as a peaceful retreat to relax and reset.

Only one wee thing - On arrival we went up the wrong drive way and ended up at the neighbour's house so would suggest having better signage from the road to Orinoco Retreat. This could be quite tricky if arriving after dark.
