Celestial Melides Country House

O espaço exterior é maravilhoso e as proprietárias são muito simpáticas

We had a really great stay at Celestial Melides in August. It is a really lovely traditional Portuguese house with beautiful gardens and brilliant swimming pool. We love the location and it was close to all that we needed. The hosts were so welcoming and very helpful with any questions we had.

The pool was fantastic and the garden was well looked after with lovely orange and fig trees. The sound of cowbells from the nearby farm was lovely and relaxing in the evening. 5 mins from melides and great access to the coast's fantastic beaches. The owner was very easily contactable on WhatsApp.

The house is very very close to the road- much more so than I'd anticipated and the passing cars are noisy can see you when at the pool. The bbq is indoors in a utility outbuilding which was a real shame / a bit odd. But there was a fire pit outside that we were able to fashion into a BBQ. The smell of drains was constant - the owner kindly arranged for her mother to come and clear them on our second day, but we could still smell them faintly the whole time - and right where the dining table outside is. Dining area is on quite a slope, so very unsteady - one of our children fell backwards off their chairs at lunch, but thankfully wasn't hurt. But was an accident waiting to happen in hindsight. The outside lights were on a timer and couldn't be switched off at night, but meant if you wanted to sleep with the window open you had light pouring in the room which made for a couple of pretty uncomfortable night's sleep. We mentioned to the owner and were told to use the fans (which we already had been doing). They weren't amenable to changing the timer so the lights weren't on all night which seemed really strange.
