The day of arrival the wonderful host texted and asked what time to meet us, she suggested we go to the super market near the airport before arriving. Once we arrived she was there waiting for us, helped us with our bags, and had brought us wine, water, jam, eggs and other treats. The location was amazing, the view was incredible. The apartment was beautiful, bed was super comfy.

I loved everything about this place.

Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience here and it really affected our few days visiting the island of Flores. For starters, no one replied to us when we reached out the day before arrival to coordinate check-in time, and when we arrived at the accommodation (simply because the accommodation is listed in Google Maps, as we were not given the direct address from the owner) we could see through the open blinds that the accommodation had not been cleaned. There were bed sheets strewn all over the place, cleaning supplies left in the kitchen, all the signs of an apartment that had not been prepared for their next guests. Thankfully we ran into the couple that was staying in the apartment below and they gave us the WhatsApp contact for the property manager (because the phone number on booking.com was not working). Once we got in touch with the property manager, she told us that she was unaware that there were guests coming that day. This is quite bizarre because we made the booking 1.5 months prior to arrival and we had reached out to the owner the day before to coordinate arrival time. There was absolutely no reason for them to be unaware of our arrival. She also said that they had a clean apartment nearby that we could use for the evening and that they would have our original booked apartment ready for us the next day. Being in the middle of a very small island with extremely little options for accomodation, we had no choice but to stay in the apartment they offered, which certainly was not as nice as the apartment we had booked. On top that, we had to move our suitcases from one apartment to the next in the middle of a holiday - while coordinating tours and hikes - overall, a terrible experience. On top of all of this, the owner of the property actually charged us for that first night without any discount after all of this chaos, claiming he was unaware of our arrival.
