Água de Alto Main House

The garden of the house is really nice, really well maintained, the house is very big and has a lot of space for several guests. The owner is very kind. Check in and out was very easy. They have veggies and herbs in the garden and they told us we could take anything we want. I loved making bbq and fire under the stars in there. The beach is close but its 10 min walking down a cliff not really good for very small kids.

The furniture in the kitchen is really cheap, they could redo the whole thing. The house misses lights in some bathrooms. The access with the car is through a very narrow street so big cars can't really go without risking getting scratches. But there is parking close by. Either way I would go again my stay was nice overall. They could just redo the kitchen and buy more quality equipment.

The only thing positive about this property is it's location. Having said that, I would not stay there again, not even for free.

This property was by far the worst property where I've stayed, and I have been travelling for more than 20 years across all continents and stayed in many different places, but not like this one. During the course of our 4 nights stay we encountered 3 (very large) cockroaches - including one in the middle of our clothes that were in the luggage on the floor, 4 geckos, the house had a very nasty musty smell, the mattresses were very uncomfortable, some electrical plugs were not covered - we had children and had to hide the plugs behind chairs to make sure our children would not get a shock...overall a very bad experience. As I said to the host after the first night, if it was not for the fact that it was August and every other lodging place was full, I would have left on that day. We feel the house really had no standards, and plus it was fairly expensive, as we could have chosen other cheaper proprieties in the vicinity, but chose this one based on the location and on the photos, but turned out to be a really bad choice. The house was not clean when we walked in (apart from being old overall), and all of our group felt uncomfortable being there. You never knew when you opened a door if you would have another cockroach lurking... I never wrote such a negative review, but for us it was a very bad experience, never again. Which is a shame because the island has great places to stay (the other place where we stayed in the island was probably one of the best ever, just whished we would have stayed there the whole week).
