Quinta de São João

Beautiful gardens and pool and plenty of private parking. Location is within walking distance of local rock climbing. Loved the homemade preserves for breakfast.

Quinta de São João is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. The rooms and the property have an old world vibe, that leaves you feeling like you are in the 1400’s, yet with all of the modern amenities. The property is stunning. All buildings are constructed with rock, and the driveway into the property is traditional Portuguese cobblestone. This leads to an outdoor cooking area, with a traditional Portuguese outdoor BBQ, and other more modern cooking appliances. Next are the beautiful gardens featuring many plants and trees that can be found in Portugal, including fig, orange and olive trees. The pathways are covered in crushed gravel, and lead you to the swimming pool. While it was too cold to swim while I was there, the views of the surrounding mountains are beautiful. For a special view, get up in time to see the sun rising over the mountains. Marinela (the owner) is an exceptional host. She works to make sure your room is stocked with a variety of meats, eggs and yogurt. You will also get a daily delivery of fresh baked bread in a Portuguese style cloth bag every morning. Every once in a while, Marinela will bake a cake, and drop it off in your villa, as a surprise when you return from your daily activities. You can’t go wrong if you choose to stay at Quinta de São João. The facilities are wonderful, and Marinela is a very kind person, and will definitely take care of you.

Internet accessable only in common kitchen area outside. Not fun when it's cold and rainy.

Very friendly host and it was easy to contact her. She surprised us the next day with a delicious cake! The apartment is traditional from the outside but modern from the inside. WiFi works really well. The apartment, the beds and linnen are clean. We could use the washing machine and detergent was provided. The garden is beautiful and has a swimming pool and a common area with BBQ. The perfect apartment for rock climbers in Poios! It was included breakfast. Fresh bread delivered in the morning and milk/juice/yoghurt/ham/cheese/jam/butter are already provided in the fridge. The environment is quiet and peaceful.

There was a slight hole in the mattress which made it a bit uncomfortable, but it was acceptable. The fridge makes a lot of noise, so we unplugged it during the night.

The host was very nice and helpful, the room was small, but comfortable and had everything you needed, Even shampoo, the views were awesome, it was very quite and very peaceful.

Towels should be replaced every two days, at the most!

Marinela left us fresh eggs, fresh fruit, homemade made cake and food in the fridge which was much appreciated. The baker delivered bread every morning. There was homemade jams and even homemade liqueurs to taste! We ate in the shared covered outside area which was spacious and with lovely views of the hills and the garden. On a hot rest day we used the hammock in the garden and the pool chairs to read and relax in the shade. The garden was quiet and very beautiful.

We were lucky that the weather was excellent during our 3 day stay, and we used the beautiful outside area a lot. If the weather had been wet the lodgings might have been a little cramped for cooking and eating. However, it was a delightful comfortable little house, we had use of a washing machine if we needed, and the house is right near many walks, so we didn’t need to use the car much to access walking routes, which was great. Marinela was such a kind hostess, very attentive and not far away should we need anything.

Small Quinta in a hillside village. Comfortable, well maintained, great pool, garden. The owner was very helpful, friendly, offered produce from her garden, welcomed us with delicious lemon cake, and brought home made dessert one evening. Good walking tracks around.
