Casa Ruben, private stone house

This house was gorgeous. The house was light and spacious and very tastefully decorated. There was air conditioning which was a bonus as the weather was very hot. The kitchen was well equipped, including a washer/dryer. The house was easy to access by foot from the ferry. There were grocery shops close by, restaurants and cafes all very close by. There are a couple of bars and restaurants close by that are really lovely and have great sea views. There are some beach areas close by to the house which were ok but we chose to walk to the beach the other side of the town which was near the church which has plenty of shade, a park and a beach bar close by. Vis was a lovely peaceful island, fairly unspoilt by tourism. It did seem a little expensive and I think this is partly due to the fact that there seems to be lots of yachts sailing to the island and staying.

There was an ice-cream shop next door which was great to get an ice-cream after dinner but could be noisy until quite late, as people sat on the wall outside the house to eat their ice-creams. The bin men arrived daily to collect the rubbish from the large bins which were located across the road from the house and this was also noisy early in the morning. Having said the above, this did not really bother us but I guess it may bother others. It would be lovely if a couple of deckchairs could be left at the property so we could sit outside at night time or early evening as there is no other outside area. It would have been a bonus to have had a pod coffee machine as many self-catering rentals provide these nowadays.
