Grandfather Zé's is a traditional house in a small village. It is rustic in style, possibly even a little basic but there is decent space both inside and out and it offers a characterful place to stay. The three bedrooms could sleep up to six people although that might be a bit of a push for the other facilities. We were only three and so it worked well for us. Considering the price that we paid, it would be churlish to suggest that it offers anything other than very good value. There is a private paved garden at the rear of the property with a couple of hammocks slung under a tree. Albernoa has a restaurant serving traditional Alentejano food and a couple of bars. There are several very good wineries nearby.

The beds would be considered as firm by most people; I did not find mine too uncomfortable although two female travelling companions were less content.

Very nice, quiet house with pretty garden and hammock to chill in the shadow. Easy access from the motorway, easy parking. Has everything to enjoy a weekend stay. All appliances are in working order, coffee machine to start a day, internet with decent speed to enjoy streaming TV shows in the evening. House has a very good vibe to it, authentic feel with some vintage pieces in the interior. Despite few drawbacks mentioned below I won't hesitate staying here again or recommend it to a friend.

2 out of 3 bedrooms have no windows, it might be common for that region, but it came as a surprise for us. There is an aircon in them, but it doesn't provide fresh air, just cooling. Garden door bottom seal wore off a bit, so ants have free access inside. It didn't bother us much as we were careful not to leave any food in the open. I am sure pouring a boiling kettle could solve it temporarily for the length of your stay if ants bother you.
