Kyomachi Rakunan

We had a pleasant stay here. The house is a traditional Japanese home with all the amenities—slightly worn but charming. We especially loved the tatami rooms — they added traditional touch to our stay. It’s in a quiet area on the outskirts, so transportation wasn’t always the easiest, but a beautiful To-ji temple nearby made the location special. The space should be comfortable for families.

The wooden bathtub looked quite old and had some mold, so we didn’t feel comfortable using it. Also, the garden could use a little extra care. Neither issue affected our stay, but wanted to mention in case it helps.

We chose this ryokan because we wanted to experience staying in a traditional Japanese house in Kyoto. We absolutely loved the place — every corner was beautiful. The location was decent, about a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Station, and the nearby bus stops made getting around the city very easy. The temple right next to the house was stunning; we even came across a nighttime event there, which turned out to be a unique and delightful experience. The house had everything we needed — and even more. It was also quite spacious compared to typical Japanese homes, making it a great option for larger groups as well. Thank you for everything!

La maison est ravissante, grande et bien equipee. J ai apprecie la proximite de la gare de kyoto, et la tranquillite du quartier. Le quartier n est pas touristique, mais on peut se rendre assez facilement sur les principaux sites a visiter. Les instructions pour le check in sont claires. On se sent vite chez soi ! Le petit jardin est tres joli, on peut profiter de la vue en prenant le bain, ou en mangeant, il n y a pas de vis a vis.

Lorsqu on reste assez longtemps (6 jours pour nous), la poubelle de la cuisine est un peu petite, surtout si on veut cuisiner un peu sur place. Il serait utile de donner des instructions pour l evacuation des dechets avant la fin du sejour...

Would’ve preferred some flexibility from the host on the checkout time. A 10am checkout is not convenient.

Very spacious, clean and have everything we need during the stay, especially washing machine available very important to us.

Prompt response from the owner. Allowing us for early check-in and late check-out!

Authentic ryokan in a very quiet residential neighborhood. Beautifully decorated. Good value and close to the train station and shopping. Neighborhood was very charming and accepting of us as guests. Unique and special place.

Since property was very old, The walls are very thin, necessitating us to whisper rather than speak after 10 PM. Traveling with my son who stays up late was a bit of a challenge to maintain the quiet. We could actually hear Neighbors whispering on the other side of the wall. While we’ve always been very respectful guests, this limited our enjoyment somewhat. While clean overall, some areas required additional maintenance.
