Bonbori an Machiya House

Location was perfect and there’s floor heating and easy check out process .

One weird rule they had is a booked for 2 people and they removed the japanese room futons completely saying it’s because you booked for 2 people only even though we booked the whole house everything should be included they made us pay extra to add the futons back.

It’s right at the center of my favorite place in Japan.❣️ And unobvious matter like having a local phone in the machiya that guests can use to reach out either to the office or local shops is something I had not experience, for me that is something very thoughtful. I did not have that in other countries I’ve been to (Europe, Asia, Americas). This machiya FEELS LIKE HOME 💕

The location is a little bit far if you are going to explore other areas like Arashiyama, Nara, etc BUT this IS NOT really a problem for us. This is something you can check before booking instead of complaining.

Very easy check in process, and everything arranged and taken care of such as delivering our luggage, and then collecting and forwarding it onto our next hotel/city. The room was in a fantastic location, with Yasaka Pagoda almost at your doorstep, and Kiyomizu-dera a very short walk away. During the day the streets were so busy, but the machiya is location down the end of a very long quiet alley with barely no foot traffic. A bit far from train stations, so having to use taxi's and buses to get around, but we knew this when we booked and chose this location specifically. Comfy little townhouse, perfect for two adults and two teens. Only issue was we had to duck to get through the doorways as we are quite tall, but we found this pretty funny. Fully equiped with everything you need, including washing machine and dryer. Shower was the best shower Ive ever had. Friendly and helpful staff. We really enjoyed our stay here, and was more authentic than staying in a hotel.

Very busy tourist area which made it difficult to leave and enter the home, but we knew this when we booked, and chose this location close to attractions.

Location was great. Very cool to explore popular tourist area before and after the crowds. Facility itself was well kept. Check in was easy.

Construction next door was in full force starting at 8am. If you are not the sort of traveler that is up early and back late I would wait until the construction is over. It was much worse than I thought it would be. On a positive note it ends by 5pm

The facility and spaces are excellent.

The place was quite deep into the alley.
