Casa de Fundões - Gerês

The owner Joāo was very friendly and helpful when communicating, and Mariana, the house manager, was very lovely as well. The house is spacious and clean, and in a very nice location. It's also very quiet and surrounded by trees. The kitchen was well-equipped and spacious enough to cook. I think this would be a much better option for the summer, when heating won't be an issue. And it would be nice for big groups, since the outdoor area is also very spacious and nice for cooking and hanging out.

The house is heated by radiators warmed by the fireplace, so since we were there during the cold season, we had to manage this system. It's lovely to have a fireplace for a couple of hours, but to have to constantly manage it in order to keep a very big house warm is quite a lot of work. There's a lot of smoke that comes out every time you have to put in more wood, and it's not a nice, or healthy, feeling to breathe that in all night long... The hot water in the shower goes from scalding hot to cold, so it's a balancing act to try to find the right spot to have a comfortable shower. The knob is right behind you as you shower, so if it's accidentally moved by your body, the hot water will scald you, which happened pretty much every time... Also, the house is very nice and clean, but does not feel cozy because it just has the bare minimum in terms of furniture; nor decor, or rugs, or art, or plants, or anything that would make it feel cozy. It's a bit sad to have brown furniture and nothing else when you want to have a cozy getaway, especially in the winter...
