"Très bonne expérience, emplacement parfait mais les murs en paravents n’isolent pas!!"

9.0

L’emplacement au cœur du quartier des temples, le cachet et l’esthétique de l’intérieur de la maison.

Rue passante et aucune isolation phonique

"Excellent experience of traditional architecture"

10.0

Excellent stay at a traditional machiya house. Worth the money to experience the beautiful architecture. They have done an excellent job in fitting modern amenities into a traditional house. Checking in at their reception near Kyoto train station was very easy, clear explanation, and they hailed a cab for us and explained to the driver the location (address is inexplicable in japan) The house has the AC already on which was necessary as it was 37c outside. The AC holds up in all rooms, except at the top of the staircase. Futon was very comfortable and pretty. Tableware provided is beautiful. Having 2 bathrooms is great and well stocked. Location is right in the centre of Gion and walking distance to a lot of major sights and restaurants. A few previous reviews mention the noise outside, yes there is no acoustic insulation but we are not bothered by it at all as it's a relatively quiet street. Would stay again.

It would be great to have washing machine, as during summer it would be nice to wash/dry clothes, but we understand the space limitations. A few previous reviews mention some black mould at the bottom of cypress bath, yes there is still signs of it, and they should remove it. While the house provides an electronic mosquito repellent, one of the small window next to the small courtyard is not full sealed, and a few still manage to get in. A cleaner got into the house on the morning before we checked out, he quickly realised its a misunderstanding and apologised and left, but it would be great if this didn't happen at all.

"Fab place to stay and a great place to explore Kyoto from."

9.0

The house itself was lovely. Great location, lots of amenities and places to see within walking distance. Lots of picturesque lanes nearby and the river was five mins walk away and a great place for a morning run. We had two kids so we moved one mattress (which were surprisingly comfortable) to the downstairs room to give them their own space and this worked out well. The bathrooms, complete with wooden bathtubs, were lovely and made for a fab experience. The kitchen was well-enough equipped so we ate in one night. Main rooms were air-conditioned and lovely and cool despite the summer heat. Had a lovely little reading nook within a separate room off the main bedroom, overlooking the street below , which was a great way to read / drink coffee while watching the world go by.

Getting keys from a separate check-in facility meant walking for five mins from the Shinkansen train station, then we headed back to the station to then get a taxi to the property. We left one family member at the station with the luggage while we checked-in. It was less hassle than I expected, but was worried about towing a family around in the heat in order to check-in from a different location to the house itself. In the end it worked out just fine, and the reception team gave good info and the process was quick and easy (take your passports!)
