Die Wasbak

The setting is lovely. Well equipped with everything you need. Close to all the hiking trails. We loved our weekend here and would definitely stay here again.

Host might need to put out some torch lights for load shedding

We can’t pick what we loved the most about this beautiful home away from home. Everything from the kitchen to the beds and bathrooms AND the wonderful garden shows that the owner cares a lot about the wasbak. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Nothing really… except that a guest staying before us tried using the fireplace but did not seem to get it right. The beautiful place smelled like a smoker. Luckily after a day of opening all windows the smell was almost gone.

The location, although in the Main Street, is quiet and shady with lots of trees. The house is far enough from the street, so no traffic noise. Lots of grass and trees. The book and CD collection of the owner is awesome. Prompted me to buy two books online after I started reading one over the weekend.

We overnighted in Swellendam and were delighted to be able to stay in the oldest house in the town. A beautiful room with wide yellowwood floors and ceiling. Not often you get to stay in a place that is 200 plus years in South Africa. Lizette gave us a tour of this special house and provided rusks and a flask of hot water for coffee during load shedding, and some anti mosquito spray. Small touches that made us feel very welcome.

Musty smell in the house. And people are easily able to access the property to sell wood at the door.

Everything about the house was perfect.

Make provision for gas kettle during loadshedding. Needed a braaibak to use when we braaied.
