This has been our favourite stay in Portugal. They renovation of the water meal was really well done and kept to the tradition and a time the grounds were lovely. The log burner made it really cozy. The kitchen was well equipped and host was exceptional. We will be coming back.

Um pequeno oásis de tranquilidade que descobrimos numa viagem de última hora. As fotografias não conseguem retratar a beleza do espaço, rodeado de água, onde podemos fazer as nossas refeições ao som de água a correr. Uma piscina maravilhosa que ainda conseguimos aproveitar apesar do tempo. A casa em si está totalmente equipada e agradecemos a simpatia e os mimos da D. Carla. Queremos definitivamente voltar com melhor tempo para aproveitar o espaço exterior. Os acessos são excelentes e a localização perfeita para explorar a beleza da zona.

Secluded and private property on a small river with nicely maintained surroundings. Easy access to main roads, so a good base to explore the region. Great for people enjoying natural nature. Nice hosts.

Our two-day stay at Carregã Water Mill was nothing short of magical. This beautifully remodeled stone house perfectly balances old-world charm with modern comfort. The owners have preserved all of the original stonework, creating an atmosphere that feels both authentic and luxurious. Every corner of the house reflects thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship — it’s a rare find that feels deeply connected to its history yet fully equipped for contemporary living. The pool was a highlight — sizable, sparkling clean, and surrounded by lush greenery. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring the area’s many treasures. The location couldn’t be better. Just a short drive away are the Roman ruins of Conimbriga, one of Portugal’s most remarkable archaeological sites and home to the largest preserved Roman mosaics in Europe — truly breathtaking. We also loved our visit to the hilltop castle in Penela, offering panoramic views and a wonderful glimpse into the region’s medieval past. In short, Carregã Water Mill is a gem — serene, beautifully restored, and ideally situated for exploring central Portugal’s rich history. We left refreshed, inspired, and already dreaming of a return visit.
