"Despite minor shortcomings, I really recommend it!"

8.0

Great location of the apartment, no problems with check-in (the host was supposed to meet us in person, but he/she informed me early enough that he/she wouldn't be able to do it and sent detailed self check-in instructions). Possibility to park your car next to the apartment (free public parking - pay attention to the colors of parking spaces). I was there out of season and had no problem with parking. The free breakfast includes packed croissants and rusks, plus fruit jams. A spacious palce with a large bathroom, a separate bedroom and a bedroom on the mezzanine.

The apartment was not the cleanest, superficially it was cleaned, but there was a lot of dust in the corners (immediately noticeable for allergy sufferers) and dirty walls in the bathroom. Despite the mosquito net in the window, there were a lot of small flies in the mezzanine bedroom. The host does not speak English (contact via WhatsApp in Italian, but it was not a problem for me, because I translated everything through a translator). No tea making facilities, I understand that coffee is king in Italy, but the property description specifies that there is an electric kettle in the kitchen, but in fact there is none. Not everyone drinks coffee and it would be great if there was such a kettle. The dilapidated sofa (not the one shown in the photos) looks like it's about to fall apart, I think it should be replaced.

Excellent location, very smart and great value. Perfect for our trip.

A kettle would have been useful but we managed.

"Nice house, but staying overnight in Matera is unnecessary."

7.0

We only spent one night in this accommodation, so some may disagree with our impressions. A spacious house with a very good separation of the interior space and a maximal use of the available square meters. The furnishings are simple but have been chosen pragmatically and are very functional. Perhaps the only thing missing was a real living room with a sofa and a small table. The house only has a dining table where all the guests can gather. I liked the bathroom - clean and furnished with style. Aside from the low pillows, I found the beds comfortable. They allowed us to park our car on the small plaza in front of the house so parking came free. The house itself is in the ZTL area, but there are no cameras there and getting to the place is not a problem. The location is just 500 metres from Sassi di Matera, where there are many restaurants. There is also a supermarket next to the house. Well-functioning air conditioners (but the cold air hardly gets up to the second floor) and decent Wi-Fi.

Breakfast is terrible! Poor and with packaged food like in most Italian accommodations. We only liked the fruits they had left for us in the fridge. The owners don't speak any language except Italian. We exchanged a few emails before our arrival to clarify our arrival time. We finally agreed to call when we were 10 minutes away from Matera. So we did, but when we called on the phone, they just couldn't figure out where we were and what we wanted. Overall very difficult communication through translation apps on the phone. The elderly man who greeted us seemed kind and friendly. But not his wife, who angrily tapped her watch to show us that checking in at 9pm was obscenely late. And according to booking.com, arrivals can take place until 11:00 pm. Checking out at 10:30 is simply too early was decreed entirely for the convenience of the owners but not the guests. We didn't use the kitchen to cook, but we wouldn't have done it either: the pans and pots were old and dirty. It was just that the owners had left their old cookware in the house that they no longer used. Unpleasant! Someone before us had used the oven, but the baking paper and the crumbs were still there. The coffee maker is for replacement - it's cracked and spilling hot water all over the kitchen counter. The downstairs bedroom window overlooks a small shared courtyard with the house next door. Once the window is opened, there is no real privacy. Our overnight stay in Matera was unnecessary - we had previously stayed in Bari for a few days and had a much nicer place to stay. Now I'm a bit sorry we didn't increase our stay there, and the drive from Bari to Matera is about 1 hour. The hotels in Bari are no more expensive.
