"Stunningly beautiful traditional home in the center of Tsurugi"

10.0

This is a stunningly beautiful old Japanese-style house a short walk from Tsurugi station. The architecture and decorations are amazing, and it seemed like every room had a great view of a garden. I really enjoyed my stay there, and appreciated the chance to experience a traditional home. The host is very sweet. Some things to note: * There's now a lock on the front door, so no need to carry your valuables with you or inform the host when leaving. * There are no chairs in the entire house. Be prepared to sit on cushions on the floor. * Baths aren't allowed, but the shower works fine. If the hot water isn't on, the controls are in the room with the sink and microwave, on the back wall by the towels. * I couldn't find any spoons; if you plan to eat food from the store, you might want to bring your own plates and utensils. * The bedroom next to the living room only has an overhead lamp. I had brought a nightlight, and found it extremely helpful in this situation. The flashlight on your phone would also work. If you can deal with the lack of chairs, I highly recommend staying here for a glimpse into Japanese history.

The bathroom seemed a bit moldy; I wanted to scrub the grout with a toothbrush. Everything else seemed fairly clean. I can't think of anything else I didn't like.

"Take a trip back to Feudal Japan! Authentic, housing experience!"

7.0

It was a whimsical journey back to feudal Japan which was pretty interesting. The owner was easy to deal with. The authenticity of the house was the main selling point for sure. The Wi-fi was strong and convenient to use

There is not a chair or stool anywhere in the house. The "bed" was a traditional mat on the floor. The one air conditioner unit kept the bedroom cool but the rest of the house was steamy--typical of Japan in August.

"Could improve"

4.0

- Place is large and traditional feeling - The mother of the owner is super nice and helpful - Supermarket is near the place

- No kitchen whatsoever even if advertised. Tea kettle is in the bathroom. We had to buy cutleries for basic needs as the owner wouldn't provide. - Owner not flexible at all. - Place is distant from station and amenities around are scarce. If you don't have a car it's not recommended.

"Truly enjoyed the authentic Japanese experience. We wish we stayed here longer."

9.0

Truly a unique authentic traditional Japanese experience with tatami and garden. The host was extremely helpful despite speaking no English. While the place was out of the way from the main city of Kanazawa, the trade off was a quiet suburban neighbourhood of Japan, very close to a supermarket and an amazing sushi restaurant called Nishikawaya we had 12 freshly made nigiri for a very reasonable price.

Far away from the main city of Kanazawa (30mins drive) and the house was quite cold (keep in mind we stayed here at the end of winter). The host was kind enough to arrange heaters in two of the rooms.

"Decent Japanese style house"

I like the huge space and it is right next to the supermarket. Station is not that closed but within a walkable distance.

"Cozy, clean, spacious home"

8.0

Cozy and homey, comfortable stay! Nice garden. Very clean home. Very spacious (we didn't actually end up using the second room). Parking included. Self check in / out. Good communication with the host. Supermarket just down the street was convenient. We also happened to be visiting when there was a festival about a block away, which was a lucky surprise.

At first we didn't know which unit the property was or where to park the car, but there was a "booking.com" sign outside the front door that helped us find the property. We wish we could use the bath for a soak after a day of travel. Sound insulation isn't great, but there are quiet hours and the area is quiet (minus nature e.g. strong winds or rain) so we weren't bothered.

"Traditional House"

7.0

A really nice traditional style house, cute, quite spacious and in a lovely neighborhood. We used it as a base for our five day Ishikawa/Fukui adventure, as it was in a perfect location for daily road trips all around! There is a supermarket really close by, and a train station that makes it quite convenient for those who don't have a car. It would be more convenient if there was an actual kitchen, not just a fridge and a microwave, but for this price, I think that was quite sufficient.

The shower room needs a serious mold treatment. There was mold all over, and it made us quite uncomfortable to shower there. I would honestly give this place 9.0 - 9.5 rating if it wasn't for the mold.

"Beautiful, enchanting house in great town"

10.0

Absolutely beautifully made traditional Japanese house. Instead of the modern smells of plastic walls and floors and chemical paints, you get the scent of cedar carpentry, sand walls, and tatami - enjoy while it lasts, fewer people can build such house every year. You have some of the most beautiful jinjas around, and for us, an easy cycling road up the valley of tetori into some of the most stunning traditional japanese landscapes of rice paddies and forests.

Wish there had been more amido (insect screens) so we could open more windows and get air without relying on the air conditioner.
