Fern Cottage, Great Strickland

Beautiful quintessential English cottage very artfully decorated and cosy. Lovely personal touch from the host with welcome package including treats for the kids. Great location which allows exploring both Lake District and Hadrian Wall. We also enjoyed cosy evenings in the beautiful garden and in the conservatory when it got a tad too chilly!

Very comfortable, everything you needed in the kitchen, loved the garden and excellent location

Needed to be a dwarf to get under the shower, difficult to manoeuvre onto the drive way easier to park across the road at the village hall not an issue for me but would bother others I imagine

Great video introduction to the property from our host Matthew which made check in easy. Very well equipped kitchen, we made use of the coal and wood provided for the living room fire. Lovely historic cottage with an abundance of original features. Our boys loved the extra tech which meant they could play their favourite music throughout the house during our stay.

We cant really think of anything we would improve on. We had a great time and the cottage was a fab base to explore Ullswater and the surrounding area.

As soon as we walked into Fern Cottage we knew it was the perfect place for our Christmas family stay. The mix of traditional and modern living was just what we were looking for and the location was perfect. Lovely touches of a large Christmas tree in the livingroom and decor around the house was most welcome also. The accommodation was faultless in terms of size and cleanliness and the perfect size for four adults and a toddler... Everything was exactly as described. I will definitely book again. Matthew is an excellent host and I would have no problem booking with him again

I never leave reviews but wow this little cottage deserves one. It was so beautiful, clean & cozy in a lovely quiet village. From the moment we arrived it just felt like home with everything anyone could possibly need down to having milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and even some biscuits and sweets for us. This was a last minute booking and we requested a cot for our young baby and nothing was too much to ask for, Matthew replied to us really quickly and had the cot and all the bedding set up ready for us by his Mum, they even left a highchair too. It had the comfiest beds and pillows we have slept on staying away, we really couldn't fault anything. The only negative was not booking for longer. We had the pleasure of getting to meet Liz before we left as we were late checking out and she couldn't of been nicer about it, she seen I was in a fluster packing up all the babies bits and she was so understanding and kind. Not putting us under any pressure to pack up quickly and get us out, she took the time to chat with us and thank us for staying aswel as going over and beyond by holding our baby for a cuddle while we packed the car up. Thank you both so much, we will definitely be back.

Great cosy cottage with all the essentials, booked on very short notice but the cottage was clean and tidy, host was very welcoming and easily reachable and very accommodating. Great location for nearby waterfalls and hikes. Highly recommend
