Bronte Railway Cottage at Haworth

It was not too far from the Brontë parsonage.

We were disappointed with the smell of damp in the downstairs kitchen, which meant we could not use the kitchen. There were notices saying it was due to coal having been stored under the stairs and kitchen in the past, but we know the smell of damp. Unfortunately it also smelt of what seemed like urine and it appears lots of dog owners stay at the house so we wonder if there has been an accident/s in the kitchen area too. This should have been picked up by the landlord/ cleaner if it was. Feeling disappointed, we looked at some of the previous feedback on Airbnb and found we were in exact agreement with 2 previous reviews that mentioned the smell of damp ( not urine) …..quite a few years ago. So unfortunately it appears the landlord has done nothing to rectify the damp issue. The parking was not good, and you needed to walk quite a way up hill to get to the property from the nearest flattish road. This road was also full of vehicles, so it was hard to get a spot. The decor was tired and the carpet in the kitchen needed a thorough clean….see attached photo. We received over excessive communication from the landlord about how to treat the property, with reminders of how we would need to pay for any damage. For example….we were told any damage to the bathroom floor would be charged etc. In normal circumstances we would understand but the bathroom floor was bare wood with no Lino or sealant between the wood. We were so concerned about how easy it would be to cause damage that we didn’t use the shower. See attached pictures of the floor next to the bath/shower Unfortunately we didn’t feel we could relax in the house because we didn’t want to use the kitchen or bathroom for reasons given above.

The location was absolutely perfect. The cottage is near the train station and you can hear the occasional toot toot of the steam trains. Really close to the centre of Haworth for visiting the Bronte Parsonage, and with plenty of places to either buy food or eat out.

The house was perfect for a base to explore Haworth.

The location was good but, on foot, the location is up a hill and the property has 4 floors. It wasn't a problem for our party but could be for people with mobility problems

Very close to all amenities. Nice and warm. The double bed was very comfortable. Nice bathroom.

THe Steep Stones Steps down to the kitchen and up to the bedrooms.

- L’environnement était relativement calme, aucun bruit pendant la nuit, ce qui était appréciable. Le gîte était propre et sentait bon. - Le propriétaire très gentil, qui nous a bien indiqué comment venir et qui a pris de nos nouvelles.

- Gite éloigné du centre d’Haworth, dans un quartier peu attractif. - Rue très en pente, ce qui n’est pas facile pour garer la voiture. - Gîte sur 4 niveaux (une pièce par étage), avec la cuisine au sous-sol. Les escaliers sont étroits et sombres, ce qui les rend malcommodes et peu agréables à emprunter. - En raison de cette disposition, ce gîte ne nous a pas paru chaleureux.
