"A great stay for people who love historical houses and who are able to climb stairs safely!"

The Manor is a beautiful 200 year old home which Sheri is taking care to refurbish. The garden has an incredible view of Torbay and if the weather had been kinder to us we would have enjoyed it more. However, both sitting rooms have the same beautiful view so the rain did not bother us. We love old homes and the high ceilings, ornate cornicing and wall frescos in the Manor are absolutely wonderful, and it was a joy to take in these rooms. The house was warm and Sheri was very generous to leave the heating on 24/7. However, due to an airlock causing banging in underfloor pipes in the bedroom with the ensuite on our first night, Sheri advised we turn off the combi boiler at night, which resolved the problem for the rest of our stay. The Manor is well kitted out with everything you might need and a generous amount of essentials were left for us including toilet rolls, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, and plenty of clean towels. All our beds were comfortable. The attic room with its 3 single beds was loved by our 3 children, who will remember it for a long time to come. This has its own toilet and sink a few steps down from the room.

Works are ongoing at the property and while we were there scaffolding was in place outside one of the bedrooms facing the sea. There were a couple of boarded up windows (one in a bedroom on the 1st floor and another in the children's attic room as a result). An ornate metal spiral staircase isn't highlighted in the house description and it would be helpful to add this, as it is the only staircase to reach the first floor. There are also steep stone spiral steps going down to the kitchen, and steep, shallow steps going up to the attic room on the 2nd floor. These aren't really suitable for frail elderly and very young children. Our age ranges were 7 to 85. Our 7 years olds were fine with the stairs, but our 80+ relatives had to be accompanied up and down stairs at all times for their safety. Particularly stressful for our octogenarians was the need to go down to the basement to reach the nearest toilet from the living level. We rolled up the rugs on the 1st floor after slipping on them, despite them looking lovely - we didn't want any accidents. The building is what it is - a beautiful old house, and we enjoyed our stay, despite the few obstacles.
