Palheiro Cavalinho

Loved our stay in the house (cottage?). It's beautiful with the stone walls and lovely hardwood flooring on the first floor. There's a full kitchen with all appliances on the ground floor in the main part of the house, and upstairs the bedroom is gorgeous with lovely wood furniture and a door to the top terrace. Adjacent to the main part of the house is a BBQ kitchen - where you can cook over an open fire - as well as a bread/pizza oven and a mini kitchen with a sink. The property is surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers, and the environment is extremely peaceful, you can hear the birds singing during the day and crickets at night.

The bathroom needs some minor upgrade work. The shower cabin doors don't slide properly and if you pull them too hard to close them you risk them falling out. The bottom of the shower must have had some damage to it and has been covered with a plastic plank through which you can still feel the dip underneath if you step on it. Hot water and water pressure are unreliable, but not sure if anything can be done about this as it is an old house after all. The toilet seat is not attached properly to the toilet bowl and needs fixing in place. It wasn't a massive dealbreaker for us as we were out of the house for most of the day anyway, but when in the house it was a nuisance - especially if you want 2 people to have a hot shower in the evening.

Very nice holiday home in a quiet area. If we come to Madeira again, we will be happy to stay there again.

I was looking for a place to escape the city’s heat, traffic, and constant noise, and this house was the perfect retreat. It’s located in the southeastern part of Madeira, near Prazeres, offering you a peaceful sanctuary with stunning gardens—all to yourself. There are amazing spots to watch sunsets, and the neighborhood is calm, beautiful, and safe. The house has two floors: the ground floor features a dining room, kitchen, and bathroom, while upstairs you’ll find a cozy bedroom with a balcony—perfect for enjoying a glass of Madeira wine in the evening. There’s also a separate dining area with a grill and a second toilet if needed. Parking is conveniently available right in front of the house. One thing to note—be cautious of the wild cats in the area and avoid petting them, as they can be unpredictable.

You have to be prepared for a lot of worms, caterpillars and maybe cockroaches.
